Pak Fashion is so ...

I have noticed that fashion in pakistan is so different from west. e.g. Guys wearing big collar shirts like 70’s. Also strange looking shirt-com-kurta outfits with jeans. I have’nt seen these things anywhere. Same is for girls. Their clothing styles are so different from anyother part of the world, yet are considered a norm in pak. Its not western and its not eastern. Its just wierd, for a new person. The fashion designers however are being more creative than their foreign counterparts, bcoz of their unlimited chain of ideas. Sorry no pics :frowning:

it's okay, i'll fetch some :)

Good topic.

do you consider it a good thing or a bad thing. I think as far as the girls fashion is concerned, our fashion designers does a commendable job. But when it comes to fashion for guys, they are simply disgusting. Not a big fan of skin tight leather pants that guys in pak are fond of nowadays. The alarming thing is that our music industry is also being bitten by this "fag look is in" mania. You see people like ali duffer, atif asslame, jal, noori, faakhir, haroon and others wearing skin tight clothes. I heard that almost all the musicians have deals with fashion designers of pakistan where the designers just make over their "image" and tells them what to wear and what not to wear.

pcg, those clothes are bang on target. on my last trip to pakland, all I saw were girls wearing short kameez and skin tight or tapered leg shalwar.

Agree wid Atlanta :)

I posted these pics up because of Robert's comments. As you can plainly see, we have the traditional Pakistani kameez-pant (popular back in the 60's was it?) accommodating chinese dragon motifs and a hint of gypsy as well.

Note the edges of the sleeves on the blue dress. Quite urban American.

I think what's giving Pakistani fashion these days some "oomph" is the fact that they're basically merging different cultural designs into pakistani traditional designs. In that sense, it is experimentive. However, as of yet, I have not really seen many of these designers come up with something absolutely new...

How long can the kuta-kut of fashion-designing last? And is it a healthy sign?

Fashion is ART, by the way. Its much more than "ooooooo, IMAN is so HOT - woof woof!"

I like this thread, Robert.
