Re: Pak cinema: What would YOU want it to be like?
Pakistani cinema should stop calling itself Lollywood to start with… That name just sounds sleezy and dirty now.. Plus its uninspired and ripped off.
Second, Films have to be more relevent to Pakistanis. No lame love stories, no more musicals, or far fewer musicals then before, stuff wich has nothing to do with our society. I would rather have films that represent Pakistani people. Stories about the struggles of Pakistanis in cities and villages aswell.** Movies which deal with our problems.** Movies that depict the joys of Pakistan and the problems. We dont need big budgets, we only need good quality story line and acting that speak to the people.
Then its up to the govt to promote such films, or facilitate them by making it easier to open up cinemas, and promoting this brand of sophisticated film to the Middle and lower middle classes..
We’ev had enough cinema focused on “problems”. Salaakhain (2004) is a very recent example. Why not something positive, something inspiring, something which gives HOPE?
