**BEIJING: Pakistan and China would jointly launch a communication satellite on August 14 to replace the SAT-1 which is on the verge of expiry, officials said. **

The satellite would be sent into the orbit on the Independence Day of Pakistan as a mark of the Sino-Pak friendship, an official said after Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilanis visit to Chinas Academy of Space Technology (CAST) here on Friday.

The prime minister went around several sections of the academy and observed the activities and research being carried out there.

He was briefed about the space workshop and vacuum chamber of the academy where Pakistan`s satellite PAKSAT-1R is being manufactured.

An agreement for manufacturing of the satellite by CAST was signed in 2008 during President Asif Ali Zardari`s visit to China.

EXIM Bank of China has provided a soft-term credit of 86.5 million RMB (Chinese currency) for the manufacturing of PAKSAT-1R, carrying a maturity period of 20 years.

Pakistan had launched its first satellite Badar with the Chinese cooperation in 1990. The communication satellite will have 30 years transponders – 12 in C-Band and 18 in Ku-Band – each of 36 MHz bandwidth. The programme is in line with Pakistans Medium Term Development Framework objectives and may provide better satellite communications for Pakistan.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmospheric Research Commission and China Great Wall Industry Corporation are jointly developing the new satellite.

My comments: It is encouraging to see Pakistan develop it’s technological potential and I would say that it needs to get together with other regional countries like China, India, Bangladesh to create a joint space mission, along the lines that the US and EU have.

It's not encouraging to see Pakistan lags so much behind in the key technology. I would also like to ponder on the fact, Pakistan was one of the most technological advance space country in 60s, just like PIA was the best of the airline, just like we were on top of nearly every sports you can name. We just see decline from 60s.

My comments: It is encouraging to see Pakistan develop it’s technological potential and I would say that it needs to get together with other regional countries like China, India, Bangladesh to create a joint space mission, along the lines that the US and EU have.

I would like to see cooperation between India and Pakistan. Although its not a big leap but certainly its a good step forward..I will further add, In space technology making satellite is not a big thing but making a delivery system (like Ariane or PSLV) is a hell of a task specially making Cryogenic liquid engines..

There is another satellite too I think Prss a surveillance satellite which will be launched this year too paksat 1 r is a communications satellite

It doesn't matter how much space assets we have, the current problem we are facing is internal extinctional fact. These days we are seeing attacks on our most protected bases (crying) certainly not without the help from inside.

Our security services are being radicalized by the mullahs but also our own fked up society which we brainwashed on the name of "fort of islam" & "jihad" to name few.

Fk satellites, all of our resources should be directed towards combating the walking zombies around us. What the fk i am going to do with satellites when my planes are destroyed like sitting ducks, when 79 American commandos on choppers were undetected for hours.

People are still questioning the role of radicalized monkeys in the blasts around the country, what more proof we want to see .. what else? Is 40000+ death are not enough to understand the gravity of situation ? What's going to happened next, a nuke explode in one of our cities?

We as a nation don't have a right to exist , if our woes continue like that.

Understand what you saying. But the same terrorists walked into india. caused much more damage. Same terrorists boarded planes on 911 and hit the strongest nation in the world.

It doesnt mean you stop engineering stuff. Infact, technology can be used to defeat these criminals. Asking your armed forces to stand up to USA is silly. They can go undetected in any country of the world.
