Pakistan Army returns Indian soldier
SRINAGAR: An Indian soldier, who had mistakenly crossed into Kashmir after Saturday’s devastating earthquake, was allowed to return to India on Sunday, a top official said.
“One of our soldiers, who had crossed the Line of Control on Saturday, was returned by the Pakistanis in the Tangdar Sector,” Jammu and Kashmir Governor SK Sinha told reporters in Srinagar. He said that the soldier had crossed the LoC in confusion after the earthquake devastated the region, killing thousands.
Sinha visited the northern Tangdar Sector on Sunday to assess the damage. During his visit, the governor was told that the army had lost 54 soldiers manning forward posts.
In one forward area, the army told Sinha that 12 soldiers were carried 3,000 feet down a gorge by a landslide, a press statement said.
The bodies had not yet been recovered. afp
