Pakistan’s private Geo television said 40 children had been rescued. It cited one of its reporters, who was at the scene.
“According to our information, French experts and our soldiers have saved 40 students, and pulled out 60 bodies,” a military official said by telephone from Balakot. The official, who didn’t want to be named because he is not authorised to speak to media, said he received the information from an army major involved in the rescue.
