Concerned over the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Pak-Afghan transit trade, a cross-party parliamentary group is in the offing to block India benefiting from this facility.

Consultations among legislators belonging to both sides of the aisle in the National Assembly are currently underway to form the panel and formally announce its making shortly, sources revealed to ‘The News’ here.

“There is a growing concern among lawmakers of the ruling coalition and opposition parties over the Pak-Afghan MoU, which has been greatly hailed by the US, as it aims at promoting regional trade and not bilateral trade,” these sources quoted some of the legislators, actively engaged in the formation of the group.

Sources pointed out that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) legislator Marvi Memon was taking the lead in efforts to form the group as early as possible.

When contacted, Marvi, who had filed an adjournment motion with the National Assembly Secretariat, seeking debate on the matter in the House, confirmed that she already had won support of MNAs from several parties, particularly from the PML-N and the PPP on the initiative. However, she declined to disclose identity of the lawmakers, saying it would be premature to reveal their names. She claimed that the move had gained support from almost all the parliamentary parties.

“I had filed a motion for an in-House debate on the issue, but it was not entertained. Afterwards, I raised the issue on a point of order.

On Thursday, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Malik Ammad briefly spoke on the issue, but I am not satisfied with his explanation,” she contended.

She was of the view that the MoU was going to ultimately facilitate Indian trade, harming Pakistan’s security and economic interests and added the government should have not shied away from a debate in the assembly in this connection, if this was not so.

Re: Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

Under the GATT agreement we can limit this trade bill. Plus we can place huge duties on trade goods going to india.

Re: Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

Seriously, We have given enough incentives to Afghans and in return all we got is violence, drugs and accusations.. In these time, when we are in state-of-war with Afghan-Indian sponsored terrorism, we should halt the trade and let Afghan suffer from this.. but Zardari and Co are going a step further and inviting INDIA into it... so now the arms/drugs/terrorism shall be exported from Afghan to India and Pakistan shall be paying the price for that...

That was Afghan, Now Indians on the other hand, doing all they can, the building Dams on Pakistani Rivers they are accusing Pakistan for everything in the world... and then they want this trade route as well..

Pakistan do have to show some back-bone here, they should refuse to do anything against the interest of Pakistan.

Re: Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

Well it does benefit us. We get revenue in the form of taxes. It benefits us a lot actually. What we just want to make sure is that we limit the amount of Indian goods going to Afghanistan. But make sure all Afghan goods go to whatever destination they wish.

Look closely on this map Guys, Believe me we are sleeping and they are taking away our country. When are we going to realize and unite, when? This is turning out to be the same thing happened in 1971.

Re: Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

aasimtom bhai..matter of fact is tht we r facing third world war..even a muslim country like iran is providing weapons training to militants or terrorists...indians,israel and afghanistan govt under the umbrella of cia r providing funds to balochi sardars to free balochistan from pak...
it is the need of time to come of this so called war on terror..the day we do..50% of our problems will be resolved..but our ecnonomy is in the hands of americans and imf..we cannot do tht..
its the rite time tht we should do dialogue with people like mullah nazir haqqani in tribel areas and bring ulemas forward..ulemas cannot do anything unless we come out of this ****ing war..
existance of pakistan is miracle of god..despite of total failure of administrtion, unchecked corruption, sectarian violence, billions of dollars of funding to militants,we r surviving..although i believe isi and army have made many mistakes in this war against terror..but we cannot ignore the fact tht due to army and isi,we r surviving..

Re: Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

Not all the plans of USA and Israel have seen success, you think Pakistani and Chinese will sit quietly to see this happen!

Pakistan is already making success in the troubled Swat district as a result the tone of Baloch sardars have been changed, another 3-4 weeks and InshaÁllah we will see a these talibs thugs have left /crushed.

Pakistan needs to focus on strengthen its relationship with Iran and China, at the same time should tighten its grip on Afghanistan, that is, in order to pressurize American and Afghan Govt, to stop Anti-Pakistan activities in Afghanistan. We need to tell them that we can block your transit trade and you better go and find another way to get ur goods/commodities. Same message should be sent to NATO forces,

but Again Pakistan need to work closely with China, a joint Army exercise between the two countries near border of India and Afghanistan will sent the right signals!!!

You are right but who will make it possible. Zardari? As long as our leadership is dancing to the music of west, we can't do anything and if you dare to do something right on a larger scale, you will be wiped out of the face of the earth, just like they did to others.

I appreciate your thoughts and feelings but slowly and gradually the youth is losing hope since we have got incompetent and unreliable leaderships, as we are much of theory fans not practical.

This map is someones wet dream in technicolor…
