Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
thanks to osama and his buddies.
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
Read the article. It has to do with government action and legislation. Nothing to do with consumer confidence, GDP or investor confidence.
Stop thinking like a two year old.
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
protecting investors and security is a main issue there,
you probably didnt understand it, did you.
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
Did you even read the article?
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
some people don't accept the world bank facts sheet when its in favor of Musharraf (which it has been from last 3-4 years) but are quick to quote same institution if its other way round :)

Pakistan Ranked High in South Asia in Doing Business: Report
Pakistan has been ranked a leading South Asian country in regard with ease of doing business as it continued reforms in various sectors and stayed ahead of major regional economies in a worldwide listing issued by global financial institutions. Pakistan is ranked second after the Maldives in South Asia in the rankings issued by the World Bank and International Finance Institution, in which a high ranking on the ease of doing business index means the regulatory environment is conducive to the operation of business. **Overall, the country is placed 76 in the list of 178 countries, according to Doing Business 2008 report. India, the other major economy of the region, is rated 8th in the region and at 120th in the global listing. China is 83rd on the list. **

Mashallah.
God Bless Pakistan.
God Bless President Musharaf and the govt. ![]()
Re: Pakistan Ranked High in South Asia in WB Doing Business Report
178 countries in the rankings.
Pakistan is 76, which means we are better than 102 countries in the world when it comes to doing business. :k:
We’re far higher in the rankings than the major emerging markets of the world like China, India and Brazil.
Quite an achievment indeed. ![]()
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
is it one of those reports that counts lack of environmental laws as a positive for doing business?
Re: World Bank Lower’s Pakitan’s ranking!
Link below shows no change in ranking for “protecting investors” from previous year.
Re: World Bank Lower's Pakitan's ranking!
I hope it gets better soon, we need more reforms, we need law and order aswell as free judiciary.
Re: Pakistan Ranked High in South Asia in WB Doing Business Report
firstly, though there is a correlation, this should not be used as an economic barometer. pakistan’s economy is stronger than it was last year.
secondly, a lower ranking than last year doesn’t mean that doing business in pakistan is more difficult than it was last year. it means that other countries reformed more in the past year than pakistan did.
72 or 76?

ease of doing business means nothing to a country if nobody wants to do business with it.

A stronger economy? Ha. After all under Bhutto and Sharif we had positive growth and the "economy was stronger than last year". It doesn't change the simple fact that growth is not translating into general welfare gain with a trickle down effect in Pakistan.
Your second statement is a contradiction. The study is a comparative analysis of doing business around the world. A lower ranking means that doing business in Pakistan is more difficult than it was last year compared to the rest of the world. The Pakistan economy does not exist in a vaccum, rather it is in competition with over 130 other countries for FDI. If we are lower on the ranking that means that other countries are more lucrative for FDI and businesses.
Re: Pakistan Ranked High in South Asia in WB Doing Business Report
ease of doing business means nothing to a country if nobody wants to do business with it.
Ah but we have much higher per capita FDI compared to others in the region... As a matter of fact it has doubled since last year.

Prove it :)
Prove "some people" 's act or prove that economy was good for last 3-4 years ? :)
Re: Pakistan Ranked High in South Asia in WB Doing Business Report
decrease in infant mortality and rise in lifespan seem to indicate trickle down effect. see when we talk about GDP growth and avg wages growth, ppl talk about it being highly skewed without bothering to note that if such a skew was mostly tilted towards teh rich, Pakistan would have more billionaires then the rest of the world combined, which is not the case.
atleast in teh case of avg life expectancy we are not saying that no, the majority of ppl have no impact and the rich and supe rich are tgrowing off the number by having an avg life expectancy of 5000 years each.
Since when did GDP growth directly affect increase in lifespan and infant mortality Mr. Greenspan?
