lol... my sister & I are going all out 'flashy' colorful theme for our brother's dholki/mayoon that we're hosting... I call it 'Chaos Under the Rainbow"... we're sticking with bright colors for linens, drapes, swags... stage... it looked really fun & vibrant when we did a trial run the other day :) So, not all things, that look like a bag of skittles erupted everywhere, need be 'paindu'... tis all in good fun & good intentions.
when u say paindu...do u mean like a village theme =S or as in glitzy over the top like in the 80s/90s? hahaha loved that......although i think mehndi events are suppose to be loud colours....i want it really colourful myself but not overly crazy!!
omg, i totally didn't mean it that way. i love punjab, im from lahore and i totally love our culture and everything about it.
all i meant was to say was that thats what they called it and they all wore parandas and churiyan and mirrors all over and flowers and matkis and stuff and it looked really pretty like i said even tho it was flashy it all fit in just right and looked pretty.
im sorry for having offended anyone.. but really didn't mean it that way!
so instead of offending people, even if you dont mean to, calling it the Punjab Pride theme. I saw a sikh wedding photos that did somethign similar for a sangeet. it was really nice!
- have a swing for the bride/groom
- some mangees/charpay for some of the guests
- matkas around teh stage
- loud colouful chaddors/carpets
- a couple of those carriage wheels
- maybe a water pump
- those photos of village scenes (there is a famous artist that makes those..my sister has a couple of large prints in her house)
- large takeeyaan/cushions
- a couple of those squared stools to sit on to put mehndi on the bride
- attullah and naseebo lal music blaring from the speakers
have the girls dress in parandas, flowers in their hair, dupatta on their head and draped from teh front
I agree that the term 'paindu' could be offensive ....How about calling it a 'Lollywood' theme!! That will definatly encourage people to dress up in a fun way as well!

wear khussas
full on bling
sounds liek a great idea.
^^^ In all seriousness --- :D --> We had talked about the same thing!! Except can't really get our hands on charpais, wheels or the water pump.... Such a cute Theme ... so we're sticking with Chaos Under the Rainbow :)
