Pain relievers.

There are many over the counter medications available across the globe. Many of us living in States because of fast space life tend to pop in pain relievers more than we need to on a daily basis.

Some of the names of the pain relievers over the counters are:

Tylenol
Aleve
Advil
Motrin
Bayer
etc etc

How many of you take such medicines without any consultation with your doctor? How many of you know the difference between Tylenol/Aleve/Motrin?? Do you guys care whether its any of the above or does it depend on how fast the pill relieve your pain?? Are you guys aware of the active ingredient of the medicine??

If I have to take any of the above then I would take Tylenol. Its the safest one over the counter for pain relieve. Unless I overdose myself excessively, then there aren’t much side effects - infact none.

So, go on share your fav choice of pain reliever and I would love to know why would you choose it?
Lets educate each other thru knowledge and experiences regarding such medicine.

Re: Pain relievers.

Ibuprofen rules :snooty:

Re: Pain relievers.

why would you say tht :hmmm:

Re: Pain relievers.

Well, Tyelenol works great when you have a headache or fever. Ibuprofen is great when you have muscular pains, toothaches, backache etc. So I guess they are both effective but taking Tyelonol for toothaches, muscle pains, joint pains, backache just doesn't work for me.

Re: Pain relievers.

^ Its because the active ingredient is different than Tylenol. Tylenol has purely Acetaminophen in it, which is only for pain reliever. On the other hand, Ibuprofen found in drugs like Advil or Motrin. These are anti-inflammatory drugs. Good for not only pain but inflammation as well. There are chances it would give GI disturbances, so one might keep a check on that :k:

Re: Pain relievers.

I don't have any issues with it, at least I haven't so far!

Lois, what's the active ingredient in Excederin?

Excederin has Aceta+Aspirin+Caffeine. One must be very careful giving this to a pregnant lady.

Re: Pain relievers.

SOme people love Excederin. I had it ince and I felt weird :bummer:

Re: Pain relievers.

who is pregy

Re: Pain relievers.

aadab good morning/ evening ladies

3 strong active ingredients in one pill, can’t blame ppl for loving it.
Few months ago, my bhabhi was having a bad cramp and she was pregnant as well. My bro being a smarty pants got excederin because its such a strong pain reliever and anti-inflammatory drug. Before he was about to give it to her I just happened to read what was in it and told him not to. He didnt believe me that time until he took my bhahi to the doc and doc said the same. Pregnant woman should avoid such medicine.

Pregy can only be a woman :stuck_out_tongue:

wsalam adaab baji ji
how r u?

I usually take tylenol but I try to avoid them most of time.

But Lois my kids are used to motrin whenever they have a fever tylenol doesn't effect them at all only Motrin suits them or Advil.

tylenol has no effect on me whatsoever.
ibuprofen is pretty much same.

aleve works. but problem is here you cannot get it without prescription. i wonder if i can sneak it across the border.

Motrin is Ibuprofen. Tylenol as far as I know is really safe and it is usually for mild fever and pain. Ibuprofen on the other hand deals with wide range of categories. Like I said above, its an Nsaid - anti-inflammatory drug. It not only refuces pain or fever but effects on other aspect of the body as well. Thats why it works faster and better than Acetaminophen [Tylenol]

Aleve is available over the counter, then which prescription r u talking about?

not up here its not. here it is available as naproxen and only prescription.

Re: Pain relievers.

iv been taking ibruprofen(400 grm) 4 times aday for the past few days due to chest pains..along with some other strong tablets docs orders:)

Re: Pain relievers.

:omg: You really thought D.O was female! Oh man, I thought you were joking before.

Okay Doctor, I can only take Ibuprofen or aleve because I am allergic to everything else. My worst allergies are to Tylenol and Benadryl (yeah, tell me about it). I avoid Tylenol like plague and stick to my gel ibuprofens, they work good for my headache and cramps.

Re: Pain relievers.

Extra strength Advil Liqui-Gels........works wonders for me. Just one usually does the trick.
And Aleve is great for muscle aches etc......I usually grab a large bottle or two whenever I am south of the border.
