Don’t know if anyone can help here but 3 weeks ago I had pain in my upper back just below the neck. It was quite bad and I felt like something burning there. I took pain killers but they didn’t work. It was like this for 2 days.
Third day, when I woked up I had stiffed neck for 2 days. Pain shifted to my right shoulder, arm and hand. It was severe that I could not move my neck. I went to emegency but was told by GP that it could be a muscle pain and will take time to go. GP prescribed me pain killers which never wroked. 2 days later, I booked an appointment with osteopath and he told it could be a trapped nerve. So far I had 3 sessions with him and pain is much better.
Problem is after 3 weeks I still get this pain in my right arm and hand.It is not all the time but worst during the night. I have to sleep on my back. Cant sleep on my sides anymore. When I wake up in the morning pain gets quite severe in my right hand making it impossible to use this hand for bath/shave.
I am still continuing with osteopath as his treatments are definitely working and improving the situation. Just like to know if any of you ever had this problem? What did you do to treat this? Is it really a trapped nerve? I fear my hand will stay like this for ever.
Back is a very important muscle.. i've seen a lot of people ignoring working out back muscle. You'll have problems in long run if u dont workout ur back .. such as improper posture.
When you do feel better start going to gym and work on the back. It will help with your posture as well.
Thanks. I am off from gym for last 3 wks but thinking to start again from next week. Dont think I am able to workout my back at present. I will begin with very light weights to workout biceps, triceps and shoulders as well as some core exercises. Hopefully this will improve the condition.
I had 4 appointments with osteo sofar. Got one coming next week. Its definitely working but I thought 2-3 appointments should have been enough. Do you guys think I should try with different osteo for 2nd opinion or continue with same?
Try to keep a straight back and your chest out. You have to take care when bending. If you think that you are making progress then I think that you may as well continue with the current osteopath but otherwise there is no harm in getting a second opinion. Peace of mind is important, and if you feel worried then do get a second opinion anyway.
When working out if you cannot work on the back then try to work on the chest as I think that will help also. Be sure to get a good warm up before you begin and then to do some stretching when you have finished.

There are so many things to reduce pain in arm and hand and when you find that pain then you should consult with your medical physicians and get medicines and you should do proper diet and exercise to maintain your health.
