Here is some details of favorite pastime of typical lahori guy … Paicha(dual of kites in sky).
Unlike other part of world, where kite flying is just for fun. Here it is very competitive sport, to master one need practice
There will be some experts from Hera mandi, Gawal mandi and Misri Shah giving indepth analysis on the Art of paicha… But first
The kites …
There are lots of kites but mostly two designs are considered best suited for paicha.
Gudha

It comes in lots of sizes normal is 2x2 ft, goes to 10x10 ft and even bigger. I consider it a ‘male kite’. It is easy to control in open sky but paicha is a fine art.
a paicha can last upto an hour or so.
the diagram…

It is very important for gudha to have perfect balance in dimensions. Any expert will reject the gudda if it is flawed.
Patang

It is more complexed form. A bit more difficult to fly and control that why it is considered a ‘female kite’. But once it is stable in sky, the paicha goes real well :k:
simmilar to gudha.
Dour and Surgical kitt

Dour(glass coated cotton string) is the next most important part. It is required to be perfect for good paicha. As the paicha get intense the player may start bleeding (fingers) he will not care about it untill the game is over. For a guy it is quite insulting to be knocked out in the first round (i.e not being able to cut any kite of oppnent )
Fancy kites

The above mentioned kites are for pure game (paicha) so they are some sort of standard. But other fancy kites are more for fun.
