page numbering in Microsoft Word

Hi guys,

Can you help me with page numbering in Microsoft word 2007? I have the beginning few pages as one column then a few that are two columns. Word is treating the two column pages as separate sections and restarting the numbering from 1. In total I have about 57 pages. It would be a huge hassle to try to re-do it at this point. I’ve tried to edit the header so it continues from previous section but it’s not working. Let me know please if you know how to fix this. @us1415

Thanks, but it didn’t really help.

I googled how to remove section breaks and once I did that for each individual section (which was happening by default wherever the 2-column pages were inserted), all the two-columns became one-column. I added the page numbers and it worked perfectly. So guess what, apparently the key is to insert page numbers first and do the column formatting after. I added the columns again and the page numbers weren’t affected. Score!
