Hello/salaam and adaab to all! I am visiting Pakistan in a few weeks and haven?t been there in over a decade. I am taking my purse, personal carry on and one big check in suitcase. What should I take besides a few clothes, makeup and gifts? For gifts I am taking some jewelry and mostly chocolates. I am also considering packing some medicine and bottled water. Am I missing anything I should take? I?m also taking my own toothbrush and face wash. I?m also taking some packing cubes for intimates and dirty clothes. Any tips, tricks or hacks would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
pS-in also taking two pairs of heels for parties and a wedding I?m invited to. I don?t want to buy everything from Pakistan. Only taking limited amount of money. Also where should I exchange money? They might eat me alive at the airport and cheat me.
Also whats allowed on an airplane these days or specifically for a flight to Pakistan. Can I take my own cell phone. I need my smart phone to download careem. I?m with T-Mobile so I?ll ask them for plan details while I?m there. i want to take all my makeup with me on the plane because I can reapply before landing and im afraid to lose it as it?s brand name. Someone asked me to bring coffee grounds so can I take that in carry on. It?s important I get it for them as they are taking time to host me! I am so scared of losing my checked in bag(stolen/misplaced)
I have so many questions lol! I should just look some of this up on airline websites.
First of all you need to have atleast 1500 rupees in pocket.. 1000 for easily passing through security check.. and 500 for the luggage carrier/coolie..
You can easily exchange money from anywhere in Pakistan.. usually it's a difference of 1 to 1.5 rupees on exchange rate.. so it wont make any difference..
Tie small colored clothes on your luggage/bag so that you can easily find it..
Take your headphones/earphones with you.. they dont provide hand sets..
Chocolates are a good option, but you can also buy uppers/jackets, handbags, cameras, etc..
You’re allowed to take 2 bags, 23 kilograms each.. and 7 kg of hand carry.. so 53 kg in total..
yes you can take your cell phone with you.. but you have to contact service centre for international roaming..
lol, no one is going to take your makeup.. and also dont leave your jewelry in check-in bags.. take all of it in hand-carry and try to wear the most..
there is no issue on brand names at all I guess..
Dont worry, a year back my cousin was flying from America to Pakistan on a connecting flight.. and by mistake her luggage was un-loaded at Dubai airport.. but she received it within a month with no loss at all..
Don't forget to pack your Glock 45, extra ammo, bullet proof vest and a cheap ass Nokia - cuz getting your phone snatched is a rite of passage, specially in my beloved Karachi.
Carry valuable with you and don't put any important or expensive stuff in suitcase as it might be damaged or stolen
Carry a photocopy of PK related travelling documents
And recently heard one can carry only one phone , if carrying more then one cell phone then will be charged a tax

Question for you Sir!
The western cell phone does not work in Pakistan! so we end up carrying two cell phones because of necessity! will customs charge for phone that does not work in Pakistan?
If you are landing in Karachi, be sure to greet the immigration officer with the word ?vanakkam?
If you are landing in Lahore, please use the phrase ?soukhyama??
If you are landing elsewhere, please refer to Matata the Hakuna suggestions.
Hope you found this post useful.
Don’t know if it’s true or rumors

What if we Land in New Delhi?
You may want to carry unlimited amount of money because the rupees will fly out of your hands without telling or asking you. You will find stuff that you would want to get and didn't imagine you'll get especially if you're visiting after 10 years. If you coming to Karachi, carry a few cheap phones to use as each may get snatched upon every trip to the market. If you must carry an expensive ones then keep it to use only at home not outside.
Also depending on how many days you'll be staying, you may want to have extra baggage on return ticket.
You dont need to bring in bottled water, its just an extra luggage and weight that you can save. I suggest that you drink water that has been boiled while in Pakistan else you gonna cat the stomach bug real fast. Also do not eat anything from the street vendors like gol gappay, chaat etc else, yeah diarrhea and yeah that will ruin the remainder of your trip.
Like someone suggested, do bring in at least 2000 in Pakistan rupees in small denominations of 50 or 100. It will help save your life at the airport. Pay them with Pakistani rupees instead of dollars (they will all ask you for dollars or pounds).
Bring in Pepto Bisomol instead of bottled water and other OTC medicine like tylenol.
You may not be able to use your smartphone with non-pakistani SIM in Pakistan but you can still use whatsapp etc with a Wifi connection, so do bring it.
Try Alhamdulillah
Opsss.. I think no one told you anything before about foreign phones.. it takes 100 to 200 Pakistani rupees to hack the country code of any cell phone.. so there’s no need to bother carrying two..
On the other hand I dont know who told you that custom officers check cell phones.. they dont bother if you’re carrying 2 or 20 phones.. however, 10 US dollars or a 1000 note with a picture of Quaid-e-Azam will help anyway.. ![]()
Oh, this is very helpful my lovely brother.. ![]()
Yes yes if you’re landing elsewhere, please use the phrase, “Sue You” but say it clearly so you dont mix it up with “S**** You” ![]()
and if you’re landing in Sahiwal.. then you should start begging for God’s mercy as there is no Airport here and you’re going to crash land.. ![]()

Enjoy your trip.
I went and enjoyed myself! Got a little upset stomach but survived. I ended up taking lots of chocolates and some skin care products which were a hit with the ladies. For kids I took chocolates and for a few I took unique color books and kinetic sand which was a hit too
