pack n play versus crib

So what is a better investment? I’m not sure if there’s already been a discussion on this, if there has been, can someone pull it out for me please.

Otherwise, I’m beginning to shop for our little one. Right now I don’t have a separate room for my baby so I wanted smthng compact. Those pack n plays with the bassinet seem good but I don’t know if they will last me a year… If I buy a crib, won’t it be like too huge for the little baby?
Suggestions…

Re: pack n play versus crib

Well, we ended up with a bassinet, a pack & play, and a crib. :D (We bought the crib, and the other two we got as gifts.) To be honest, we used each to the fullest. The first few months, izzah was in her bassinet. We hardly used the pack & play initially. I did keep it downstairs for the occasional naps downstairs, which hardly lasted a week or so. I preferred to put her down for a nap in her bassinet. As she outgrew the bassinet, we put the pack & play in our room (replacing the bassinet.) Now that she's over 6 months, we have moved her to her own room with the crib, which we had set up before she was born.

So that was our situation. Now for suggestions, I'm completely happy having both the crib and pack & play. The playard with the bassinet works out perfectly for trips, even if you don't use it at home. But since you're looking for something compact, it should work perfectly. They do suggest not to use the pack & play bassinet once the baby is able to stand up, but you could always use the lower level of the pack & play, I guess. The time period we used the pack & play as her bed, it did seem like it was temporary. Now that she's in a crib, it seems more permanent and more bed-like. If the crib seems too big, you could always swaddle your baby tightly to make him/her feel snug.

Re: pack n play versus crib

You have to have a crib. That is the safest option.

As far as a Basinet is concerned, babies grow out of em a little too soon.

Re: pack n play versus crib

We haad a crib and a pack-n-play. I just about never used the crib... the pack-n-play bassinet worked just fine for the early months and then we took out the bassinet insert and used it like a crib and it was right next to our bed. It was ncie to have them close while they were infants and some of the pack-n-plays are every bit as comfy as a regular crib. AND they're portable, easy to take if you go on overnite visits etc. The crib we had was really just a waste of space lol. Once they got bigger, they moved to toddler beds.

pack and play with bassinet is a good investment. they are safer for babies too.
I regret buying a bassinet, it was a waste of money. Then i bought pack and play, it lasted a while.

Re: pack n play versus crib

My story - I bought a pack and play, crib and a bassinet

  1. used bassinet for about 3 days
  2. returned pack and play
  3. used crib and papasan swing the most!!!

Re: pack n play versus crib

A crib is the best. You will use it for the longest time.

We had a pack and play, never used it!

Re: pack n play versus crib

wow.. these are so many different/ but great suggestions. I am considering a packnplay with the bassinet. A few of my friends tell me how their child never really slept in a crib to begin with and then just moved to the bed with her, and later, I guess their own beds...
sigh..

and many of you tell me how a crib will last the longest/ plus it's sturdier and safer..
