Irem… I dunno the recipe or anything but I’d relate an incident.
You know, in our family, my dad and I are the only ones who like to eat paaye. So when we went to Pakistan, my dad told me about some special paayes called “PHAJJAY KE PAAYE”. He said he would bring some for me one day. so he did. That day I was so hungry and sat down to eat ALL ALONE (my dad is a heart patient so he cannot eat that stuff anymore). I smelled it and… ummm… it was heaven. I tasted it and… ummm… I stopped talking and ate, ate and ate
Well, I had the last bite of my roti in my hands so I took out one paaya out of my plate and… I saw some black stuff sticking on it. I looked closely and it was… bakre ki skin still attached to it… My last bite I could never eat and… although I had all the “maza” eating lunch that day, I never wanted to eat “PHAJJAY KE PAAYE” again… my mom and everyone else had a reason to laugh at me… they still do…
we had a nihari and paye dawat yesterday... god it was grotesque.. pppl suckin on bones tryin to get teh gooda out.. yuck.... its so damn sticky!... i just ate the nihari... even teh meat in paye looks iffy to me... all slimey and gluey.. errkh
oh and wannabe.. if u find that sick.. get this.. i just found out teh original way to make haleem is to use tongue.. not other kinda meat... but tongue... :throwing up: that is how its really meant to be made!!!!
we desis are such waishees :D
my recipe: the best kinda paye is a bachiya's (calf)
4 paye ( if u see lil hair on teh paye and cant pull them off.. put them on a stove... that should burn the hair off)
1 small onion
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp ginger and garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp yoghurt
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dhanya powder
curry - In 4-6 cups of water, add all ingredients except yoghurt. Cook until the meat is tender. Mash Onions aswell.
IN 1/2 cup oil , fry 1/2 onion (or u can use pre fried onions - 2 tbsp, crush them )). Take out when red and crush them.
In the same oil add teh yoghurt and Paye and cook until all yoghurt water has evaporated. Add the crushed onion followed by the curry.
Add 1/2 tsp garam masala and cook for 5-10 mins on low heat.
Thank God none who I know eats like you’ve described. Must feel icky only to watch. :yukh:
Just for your info that stickiness comes from gelatine which is good for bones. My parents used to make us take its soup when we were small. But for me it is easier to eat the cooked paaye instead of soup. You do not need to stick to nihari, you can take the soup if you do not like to eat it :k:
I didnt get that part… making haleem with tongue???
erm... so how do u get teh gooda outta the bones???? u havta bang the bone hard man ... ofcourse u cant just throw the bone away without licking it either... :p
yaa yaa... i know bout teh gelatine being good for u... but its soooooo gooeeyyyyyy.......i eat payee only if my mom feeds it to me :D and the nivalaa must go directily into my mouth without touching the area around my lips.. lol... so its easier for me to just not eat payee..
as for haleem... u put meat into haleem right.. most ppl use chicken or beef... well.. the real way to make haleem is to use the tongue of a bakra or cow :p
Yummy , mazey mazey k threads. I like, nahiii bal k I love payeee but "CHOTEY" k paeeyee not "BAREY" k payeee. Kia GOODA hota hai ....wah wah , chip chip kertey howey hathooon sai , gooda chosna ufffff ! ! I miss that garma garam TANDOORI ROTI here in US while eating Payeee and Nehari ! :(
Hey which gooda outta bones? In PAYA bones, there is no “gooda” as per my experience (but then I havent eaten them ALOT so I dont know if there is). I have taken the soup and eaten paayes a few times but the gravy and the stuff OUTSIDE bones is what I have eaten.
Ofcourse, I lick it reeeeeeal good Hehehehehe… I love the stickiness on my fingers and lips cz that assures me it’s gonna help keep all my joints together which used to to move out of place after a little wrestling with my brothers.
Ohh, I see, tongue as meat… Gosh… but I can completely trust my mom for not doing that cz she does not even eat kaleji or any other part of bakra (except for the meat).
