Paani Poori

Cant tell you guys how much i am craving it … the absolutely sad fact is that I have had paani poori just twice in my life and both times I had it with plain boiled channa and the imli water ..

But recently saw an indian friend from Mumbai have a proper paani poori .. she had some kind of channa potato chat , green chutney, sweet chutney and imli masala water and some seiv … and cant tell you how totally different that experience was …

So those of you who have had paani poori in Pakistan … can you please share how its presented and with what condiments?

Re: Paani Poori

I am pretty sure the chanas in paani puri I always have in India are the kabuli chanas.

Why don't you try your pani puri with dahi (just add some sugar and pheto it with a dash of water, little namak and mirch) and sweet imli chutney over it with some chopped pyaaz and coriander? DELISH.

Re: Paani Poori

I am intrigued to what people from other regions in Pakistan call it?
In Lahore we always called those puff shells with khata pain and boiled chanas Gol Guppay.

Re: Paani Poori

the filling changes from region to region. my fav is the west bengal kind. they call it puchka, and its flavors are amazingggg. the pani has chopped up chillis on top of imli and kala namak. drool..

Re: Paani Poori

at home, we also make it with a channa potato chaat and the "water" is kinda thick and heavily flavoured with chilli etc. we always have finely chopped tomatoes, red onion and coriander as a topping. you can eat it on it on its own or sometimes we get the gol guppay and fill them with this, extra imli pani is on hand (there is some imli in the chaat already), chutney etc etc.

Re: Paani Poori

Omg, my biggest pregnancy craving has been gol gappay and samosa chaat. Gol gappay from Lahore, samosa chaat from Islamabad/Pindi. Best gol gappay I had was in Lahore Defence (odd, I know) - you get a plate piled high with the shells, a small cup with imli ki chutney, another small cup with chilli/mint chutney, another cup with aloo + chanay + coriander mixed together and chopped fine and then a cup of the khatta/spicy water. I'm drooling just thinking about it. =( Too bad we don't get awesome chaats and stuff here. Lahore/Pakistani street food in general is just unbeatable. =(

Re: Paani Poori

S_punk was it lahori chaatkhara (i think i got the name right) all of their stuff used to be amazing.

Re: Paani Poori

No, I've been to Lahore Chatkhara and although it's yummy - I think it's a bit over priced, and the food isn't all that great. Used to be amazing, though. I'm talking about a place called Aslam's and it was in G-Block Market - tiny place (you have to eat in your car), portions were ginormous, and it was 50 rupees or something for a huge tray lol.

Re: Paani Poori

Well typically in Pakistan it is called gol guppay and they are presented with 2 kinds of fillings. One filling is filling of Dahi pakori and other with kabuli channa and aloo with chat masala. Sweet imlee chuttni is poured over the shells and you are provided with the khatta paani in which you put the shell and fill that water as much as you want. Its an all time yum recipe, best available with the rairee walaas in many shopping markets. Liberty market in Lahore has numerous of them and they are good too. I ate gol gappas in Gulshan Ravi park and they were superb. I have recipe too if anyone need i would share

Paani Poori

Mmmmmmmm I had them yesterday at gifto's in Southall. YUUUMMMM!! And now I wanna make my own :) my absolute fave things in the world! Can someone post a good recipie up?
