**Wave Wireless files for bankruptcy
**
Wave Wireless Corp., the wireless broadband equipment maker that acquired Lakewood Ranch-based Speedcom Wireless three years ago, has filed for bankruptcy protection from its creditors.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company filed this week for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., listing assets of $1 million and debts of $5 million.
Wave filed for protection from creditors after failing to find a buyer willing to pay enough for its assets so that the company could pay off its debts.
Wave Wireless was founded in 1992 as P-Com Inc. and went public in 1995. The company changed its name to Wave Wireless in August 2005, after acquiring Speedcom Wireless of Lakewood Ranch in December 2003. The “Wave Wireless” had been Speedcom’s primary trademark.
