Hi,
In some of chineese dishes oyster sauce is used. Is this halal or haram, confused. Any reference about it.

I think that all shellfish is haraam. I know that all shellfish is non-kosher and so is forbidden to jewish folk. Anyway, if all shellfish is haraam then then so is oyster sauce, its made from a concentration of oysters.

Hmmm aren't prawns / shrimps a type of shell fish too? If yes, than they would be haram too??? Now I am confused!!!

Shellfish is not haram. Some people consider shell fish makrooh but that doesn't makes it haram.

a predator, like a shark, is considered haram, i believe, and bottom dwellers too.
but i think shellfish are allowed... are shellfish bottom dwellers?

not sure about shrimp but all clams are bottom-dwellers. So are lobsters.

i thought oyster is just makrooh?
anyway, Jias u can always replace the oyster sauce with mushroom sauce. since i'm not into seafood, tats wat i normally do.

Makrooh should be treated as haraam and not halal ... just my opinion ..

Makrooh means "disliked". it is a cateogary of prohibition in Islam .. or something that sits b/w what is permissible and what is prohibited ... but sits closer to prohibited, according to many scholars

Makrooh literally means something which one dislikes. In the Hadith literature it is generally used in the same implication. However, as a term of Islamic Fiqh it connotes something, which even though is not prohibited by the Shairi’ah yet is not a desired act. It needs to be appreciated that when something is declared Makrooh by some of the jurists that does not necessarily mean that the act under consideration is actually not accepted by the Shari’ah.

Its not haraam.
If you look at it and donot feel like eating it then it shouldnt be eaten.
I think it becomes makrooh
Thats what my mum told me.
Other than Shark and Fish eggs, I eat anything from the sea 
Although I donot like Oysters, i prefer Mussells.
