my cycles are not even, averaging 34.2 days over the last 10 months. 10 months ago is also when i stopped the pill. if i go by my discharge then i am ovulating on days 16-18 most months, but some months its later, so prior to that we have been trying. no luck so far but we've only gotten serious about it since Jan this year so i'm not too, too concerned.
i am wondering though if i'm reading my body right, so i picked up the first response ovulation predictor sticks. they're supposed to be highly accurate in detecting your LH surge which usually happens 24-48 hours prior to ovulation so the theory is that you can time things better for the best chance to conceive. a few people i know have successfully used these but the downside is they're quite expensive- $29.99 for a box of seven tests.
has anyone tried these? and if your cycles aren't regular, when do you use these? obviously because i only have 7 tests i don't want to use them on day 14 and then it turns out i'm ovulating more than a week later and therefore its been a wasted pack.

SGC, if your cycle is around 34 days or so, you are likely ovulating around day 20.
Cycle lengths show significant variation from woman to woman, but a more consistent measure is the 'luteal phase' of the cycle, which is the time after ovulation until you get your period. This is almost always 14 days (unless you have a luteal cycle issue) so chances are that you are ovulating close to day 20 which means that days 18,19,20 are most likely your most fertile.
