Forgive me if this has been asked before, but for those of you who used these, did u go with any particular brand?
Is the generic/store brand, whcih is cheaper, just as good as the name-brands?

I used the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor. I bought a used one and bought the additional strips because my ovulation was always off. I used it for 3 cycles.
It helped to some degree.

Are your cycles regular? I would recommend Clear Blue Digital Ovulation Sticks. They are very accurate and will definitely help.
Clear Blue Fertility Monitor is really expensive and the ovulation sticks can pretty much do the same thing so I don't think there is any point in spending so much money.

Oh njgal mentioned the fertility monitor. It's a really expensive gadget that tracks your entire cycle I think. I am not too familiar with it.
Ovulation sticks help you detect your surge before you ovulate and are really helpful. Lots of people swear by it!
Forgot to add, if your cycles are regular, you really don't need a fertility monitor. Ovulations sticks will work perfectly fine.

Sara - I just bought the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor last month and used it for my current cycle. It was the first month I used it and it did indicate my peak days (time of ovulation).
The Fertility Monitor actually gives you more notice before ovulation whereas the Ovulation predictor kids only give you 2 days. Also, what I like about the Fertility Monitor is that it takes first morning urine. For all the other ones you have to pee on the stick at like around 2:00 p.m. (they don't recommend first mornig urine for the OPKs). To be honest, I work and the last thing I need to do is to go to the washroom with a test stick everyday at 2:00 p.m. I prefer doing stuff like that in the privacy of my own home.
Anyway, everyone keeps saying that the Monitor is SO EXPENSIVE. I don't think you can put a price on conceiving. I got mine at Shopper's Drug Mart and I was going to pay $250 for it. When I got there I realized it was on sale for $200 but that was just a bonus. I was going to get it anyway. If you are like me and have irregular cycles (one month its 42 days, the next month 35 and then 30 etc.) then this can help.
I wish I had bought it a few months ago. Becoming a mother is priceless.

I've been told that the ovulation sticks will only work if you have regular cycles. The ones on Amazon are quite cheap and work well. Good Luck :)

Can a basal body thermometer be used to figure out the same thing? i.e when you're ovulating?

I used Answer 20 Day Ovulation Test Kit, it worked for me…I read some reviews which stated that results were hard to interpret but I found them easy to use. I guess just follow the instructions carefully!

it's a bit harder to read but if you have predictable regular periods every month - you can narrow down your ovulation to a couple days.

well my periods are pretty regular so I'm sticking with the ovulation sticks...i had no idea there was an actual fertility monitor that was hundreds of dollars ://
