Hypothyroidism is not as common in men and given his eating habits I doubt it. People suffering from hypothyroidism eat the same amount or less and still gain weight which doesn't seem to be the case here. Worms are not common in the West (I'm guessing that's where she lives) also, worms would lead to weight loss not gain. So I think it's more an issue of bad eating habits and lack of physical activity.

LOL @ all the comments due to misunderstandings and commenting on a thread that's like a yr old and OP has not given any updates.

Also going up three sizes for a male would require about putting on about 60 or so pounds. This can be done in six months if the guy was eating way out of control. Could Be Less weight if he is like 5'5 to 5'8 or so.

My theory is OP's attention to his weight is causing him to stress out and overeat. Since we have not heard back from her in over a year, either the problem went away or she found something bigger to complain/worry about.
