Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

Fellow Guppies

So hubby is trying to plan an overseas trip to Singapore and Lahore in November/December for 3-4 weeks. We plan on staying in Singapore for one week and Lahore for 2-4 weeks. We plan to travel with our 3yo and I will also be around 24 weeks pregnant. I am completely lost, as we have never travelled overseas and am a little worried about travelling while pregnant (alh, i’ve had a healthy pregnancy thus far).

Any advice from people who have travelled overseas while pregnant and with a toddler? What should I do to prepare? What is essential to pack? What about vaccinations/medications (ie- can you take malaria medicine while pregnant?)? Any tips/advice/help/guidance will be much appreciated.

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

Traveling with hubby and a toddler while pregnant is easier than traveling with a baby and a toddler. You’ll be fine. Singapore has really good hospitals but you will have to be careful about dengue and illnesses caused from eating from outside in Lahore

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

We travelled to pakistan with a few days stay in abu dhabia few months back, with a 3 year old and my 10 month old and I was 25 weeks pregnant. Travelling was tiring but it went ok, better than expected, I made sure the flights were at night so kids would sleep, even though I didn’t but having them asleep made things a lot easier as I knew my toddler would not have sat in peace as he had started walking.

I made sure I had all my vaccines, GP said it was safe. I didn’t take malaria tablets although they were safe to take, can’t stand the taste of them. Got them for the kids but they didn’t have them, just put repellant on them and used the plugs there.

Just be careful with what u eat, I get sick everytime I visit but this time we hardly ate out as I was worried about getting ill and i only got a dodgy stomach once. I even brushed my teeth with mineral water. I took a lot of snacks for the kids as don’t really trust anything made there, due to watching “Saray Aam”. Also keep an eye on what ur child is eating or what anyone tries to feed them. I took formula milk from here for them both even though my 3 year drinks cows milk here I just gave her the 2-3 year formula. I also took a microwave steriliser for the bottles. I know I went overboard but better to be safe than sorry, as i didn’t know how I would have coped had either me or the kids got really sick as I was already exhausted from pregnancy.

Hubby got really ill 2-3 times even though he is originally from pakistan, this was down to the fact that he ate out quite a lot with his friends.

Just ask me If u need any more info or advice.

^ thanks for the advice! what kind of snacks and other essentials did you pack for the kids? i’m worried about the 20+ hour flight, as we will be travelling from the US. did you take a stroller for your 3 yo?

also, anyone know what the weather will be like in mid november/early december in singapore and lahore?

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

Weather should be quite pleasant in Lahore.

Singapore weather is generally tropical and hot. In Nov Dec it may be raining a lot, on and off. It’s a jeans and tshirt/simple lawn jora kind of weather. Lahore may be cold I think esp if you’re outdoors.

A week in Singapore is too long! Main and touristy places can be covered in 4-5 days.

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

That’s a long journey. Do u have any stopovers on the way?

I took biscuits, buns, crisps n chocolate, (kinder, ritz etc)I know it wasn’t the healthiest of foods! I didn’t take a stroller for my 3 year old as she is quite big for her age, she is more the size of a 5/6 year old n she was happy enough walking. Your stroller is not given to you if u have a stopover on the way.

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

thanks for all the tips. we are also planning to stay a few days in Dubai after Singapore, before heading to Lahore.

Any tips for affordable hotels to stay and things to do/see with a toddler while pregnant in Dubai?

also, my MIL told me she can buy packed Nestle milk in Lahore for my daughter. what does it taste like and is it cows milk? i was thinking of taking some organic milk packs from costco for her.

fefe- i would appreciate if you would share your packing list with me here or PM me. i am not sure how much to pack for my daughter and myself (in terms of clothes, undergarments, medicines, snacks, etc).

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

We were in pindi, we used fresh milk from dairy farm…my in laws use that. For traveling, we used olphers or nido + bottle water. It is cow’s milk.
I actually got nido from US to carry on the plane.

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

Last time we went to Dubai, my daughter was just under 2 years old and we stayed in an apartment in the marina area, as it was easier to have a kitchen to warm up milk n have a microwave etc there. There was a kids pool in the building and we spent most of our mornings there.

What area are you thinking of staying? What sort of budget to you have? Jumeirah beach is a lot more expensive than Deira/Bur Dubai. Go to hotels.com and search for accommodation. I also never book anything before checking reviews on tripadvisor. I would recommend you stay in a hotel apartment so you have amenities of hotel and apartment.

As for things to do, some of the things we did were;
Burj Khalifa and musical fountains
AquaPlay at Mirdiff mall, my little on loved it there
Magic planet, an indoor play area with rides, at Mirdiff mall and a few other malls
Creekside park
Wild wadi water park
Al Mamzar beach park
Dinner dhow cruise
Speedboat ride at creek

A few other things were desert safari and iFly dubai but wouldn’t recommend these since ur pregnant.

Dubai is my favourite holiday destination as there is so much to do there and all he food is halal. You have to try Ibrahimis restaurant and jimmys killer prawns. But check out tripadvisor.

I sent u PM with list.

Re: Overseas Travel while pregnant with toddler

Singapore is great for kids! Especially the zoos they have so many! Even the gardens  best thing about it is the street food… but maybe that’s just me
