Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
^ Are you suggesting that you were the last of the honest Pakistanis living in Pakistan?
"Don't argue with me on that" is pretty weak, IMO. I suggest you write it in bold-red to make it stronger.
Again I did not say that. I am not suggesting here anything. It is all your thinking about honest, hard working Pakis of Pakistan, but the country still suffers a lot on account of this honest Pakis.
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
I never said that in this thread. I said that if ex-repatriates can contribute to Pakistan's economy, why can not Pakistani living in Pakistan? What's wrong with it? I just wanted to know how this one huge foreign exchange is being utilized to make the lives of Pakistanis easy. Again what is wrong asking this simple question? If you know the answer by providing breakup, that will be fine.
Pakistanis living in Pakistan do contribute to Pakistan's economy, do you think the whole country is being run on AID and foreign remittances? Pakistanis living in the country do no pay taxes as much as we would want them to, yes, I can agree with that.
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
Pakistani living in Pakistan not paying tax? ye jo Lays ka 10 rupe ka Pack, jis main air ke sath 2-4 chips nikalte hain.. iss per bhi 2 rupe Sales Tax Lagta hai.
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
lol @ 2-4 chips. Meray khial main in chips say tou daaRh bhi geeli nahin hoti
Its easier to increase GST (which affects the poorest the most) as compared to increasing the tax base and bring the rich under tax net (industrialists and agriculturists).
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
As long as they contributing to country whether legally immigrant or illegal **immigrant, it is a huge, honest and hard working contribution **even if they lie to earn honest living. They live tough life but an honest and decent one. On the other hand Pakis living in Pakistan they even don't obey the red traffic signal. What are you talking about?
How can you have "honest" living after lying? What are you talking about? Let the Pakistanis living abroad know for a minute that the police will not catch you and fine you (that you will HAVE to pay) the next second they will run the red light, over speed 30-40 mph, not yield to oncoming traffic etc. It is the lack of law enforcement in Pakistan which allows them to not obey the traffic light, otherwise it is all the same.
The same Pakistanis get in a queue to board a plane from US, showing decency, etiquette but as soon as they land in Pakistan they run over the plane before it lands, they will try all their "power" to by pass the immigration line, lie/bribe customs officer etc. What moral superiority are you talking about here.
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
The other thread in which we were discussing the assets and taxes of Imran Khan. Its a sad reality that we dont even have Capital Gains Tax to capture some amount when property is sold. This tax can also offset the disparity in the taxation of property when bought and sold.
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
Salaried class pays Income Tax and corporate sector incorporate all taxes in price of their products. Indirect Taxes (Sales Tax) forms around 70% of tax collected in Pakistan. If we talk of individuals, then people are more exposed to taxes in Pakistan than any country in the region. Now, people are paying 16% Sales Taxfor services like car wash, saloons, gyms. In India, service tax is around 5-6%.

They send the money to their families for Gods' Sake...... its not like they are giving the money for their love of the country............ Today you move the families of these people to .....lets say Afghanistan......... Afghanistan will get that 14bln Dollars...................
I seriously don't understand why expats make stupid claims like these.......

the thing is that their families do spend that amount in the country...so it does help the country's economy...
Re: Overseas Pakistanis send $14.9bn as global remittances grow
We are not denying the benefits and support it adds…just the superiority complex being shown by expats…
I did a little analysis of the remittances… others might benefit… the remittances from US and UK jumped only after 2001 attacks… probably because the expats felt their wealth was in danger… Moreover, with depreciating rupee, it makes sense to invest in Pakistan…
Average percentage of total remittances (from 92 to 2001) - 17%
Percentage in 2001 - 20%
Percentage in 2002 - 39%
Average percentage of total remittances (from 2002 to 2013) - 35%…with a constant 30% since 2009…
Now if it was for the love of the country…wouldn’t it be increasing???
