Overqualification...

Is there any such thing as being over-qualified or do ppl just use it as a excuse to say " yea, you do meet all the requirements, we just don’t wana hire you ".

to me the whole idea reallly sounds weird. i mean why wouldn’t someone hire a person with more experience, someone who is a step ahead of others.

It;s a bit of both. Employers tend not to hire overly over qualified people because there is a huge risk of them leaving for greener pastures. At no time is this more relevant than in a down economy. Dearth of jobs creates such issues when you get a flood of overly qualified people in the marketplace. There is a cost to employee acquistion and attrition. Hard costs such as Training, bennies etc. and recruiter fees and the incremental cost of hiring someone new in the event of attrition. Plus there are intangible impacts such as company culture and team dynamics which relate to negative productivity.
