Over the counter birth control
By your logic condoms should be prescribe to? Don't they promote exactly the same thing you mention about pills? Or wait I forgot condoms for boys, they are allowed to have sex...

Re: Over the counter birth control
Before you start making judgments about girls using birth control, you should know that it is used and prescribed for many reasons other than birth control.
1) To treat ovarian cysts 2) To treat symptoms of PCOS - a hormonal syndrome 3) To treat endometriosis 4) To treat acne 5) To treat very heavy menstrual periods 6) Some other medications will not be prescribed to a female patient before she is taking birth control, because pregnancy is contraindicated while taking that medication (a pregnancy would be fatal to the fetus). Even if a girl is not sexually active, the FDA requires her to take birth control, because unfortunately, men still rape women in our society!
Please educate yourself before you pass judgment on people. There are many 15 year old girls who have to use birth control for one of the above reasons, and not because she cant keep her legs closed.
Well to cure any of the problems above, a specific type of birth control must be prescribed by the doctor, be it for a 15 year old girl a 35 year old woman. In the case, birth control pills just another form of medical treatment.
Re: Over the counter birth control
Speaking of 15-year-olds and means to prevent pregnancy…
Re: Over the counter birth control
If I’m not mistaken, I believe you’re a guy. I find it interesting (although not surprising) that you’d make it a point to refer to a 15 year old girl and not a 15 year old boy. Heck why not just say 15-year-old TEENS?
And why are we all so focused on birth control pills? OPs post brings up the issue of birth control…and we all turned it into girls and BCPs. What about 15 year old BOYS?
Are condoms not considered a form of birth control?
Last time I checked, they’re available over the counter without a prescription and ANYONE can buy them (including 15 year old girls)…at least here in the U.S. Can someone tell me if its the same in UK, Canada etc? Does Pakistan require a doctors prescription for condom purchases?
Re: Over the counter birth control
Not to mention if teens want to be protecting themselves fully, condoms are the way to go as they protect against pregnancy AND sexually transmitted diseases, something birth control pills can't do. Not to mention side affects of the Pill, it's not a solution for everyone.
Re: Over the counter birth control
And there's a reason why contraception pills are not over the counter - you need to have an assesment with a doctor to determine which one would be best suited for you. If there's a history of blood clots or certain illnesses in the girl's family, it's advised she goes on a different one to minimise the risks of serious side affects.
If contraception pills were made available over the counter, I highly doubt a 15 year old would be able to make an informed decision over which one is best suited to her particular needs.
Re: Over the counter birth control
Interesting that everybody focuses on consensual sex and not rape, molestation and incest. After all these elements take into account a good portion of the abuse women have to take and more importantly in these cases an unwanted pregnancy could add more emotional and psychological damage.
When I referred to birth control pills and mentioned 15 year old it was to get people to think beyond the narrow minded view of sex and sexual relations. A woman who is raped should not need to set up an appointment with a doctor, get a prescription to get access to birth control. Be she 15 to 45. Thus in general birth control pills should be available over the counter.
Re: Over the counter birth control
^in the rape example............the woman would need emergency contraception rather than ordinary birth control, unless I'm not understanding the scenario correctly
In the US, emergency contraception is available over the counter. The age requirement used to be 17 but has just recently (within the last week) changed to 15 by the FDA. No need for a prescription.
Re: Over the counter birth control
I’m not quite sure what molestation (where victims are CHILDREN) and incest has to do with this.
Maybe I’m just missing something…![]()
And also…as Guac already pointed out, rape victims (or ANY woman who have already had sex) need the “morning after pill” and not birth control such as condoms/BCPs etc in order to prevent pregnancy. The morning after pill is already available over the counter in the US and in addition, anytime a woman walks in a ER and says she is raped…the morning after pill is offered to her depending on how long ago she was raped (ie. no need to make a doctor’s appointment).
Re: Over the counter birth control
Prescriptions in Pakistan
. No way, Pakistan is a free country and you don’t need a prescription for anything.
Re: Over the counter birth control
^ Yes that's what I figured. So there you go......birth control is already available without a prescription even in Pakistan.
Re: Over the counter birth control
Birth control is only available in select places in Pakistan from what I know. They do not provide it at hospitals and considering the stigma with rape in Pakistan or any third world country most women don't report it and have to deal with the consequences.
