The successful election bid of Donald Trump President-Elect has stunned many people across the world, but most importantly it has taken a lot of Americans by surprise who were almost certain that he would never make it to Presidency. Examples of this presumed certainty can be found even within discussion here that took place on the topic. So, while the shock may take some time to subside, it has become a fact that Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the new President of U.S.A. in a few weeks.
The rub lies in the constant stream of reports coming out of what a terrible thing it will be for Donald J. Trump to be the President of U.S.A. While his campaign was certainly full of all spectrums of the colorful language gauge, it has yet to be seen how he will now act as President. It is hoped that he is given a fair chance just as any other President who would have been elected. However, now addressing the very title of this discussion, why is there such a sense of fear as if Hitler himself was resurrected in the form of Donald Trump? We must realize that he is one person with certain power the constitution bestows upon him in his capacity; however, there are 2 other branches of the Government structure that are in place to ensure checks and balances. It is the system of checks and balances that has been a crucial component of American governance since independence from Britain.
It is rather hoped, and logical to think that he will need to make compromises to get things done and his hardline rhetoric may remain just rhetoric because parts of it cannot be in the same spirit as the Constitution. There is unlikely to be Gestapo snatching up Muslims from the street of America or anyone who disagrees with the President. While Donald J. Trump in his personal capacity may have the pettiness to resort to such measures, the President of the nation will not have that sort of a luxury because of the complexity of the system and the vast size of the government machinery.
We must abandon despair, and if possible, become active in our respective communities to unite people and work for the betterment of each other; that will be far more conducive than giving into all the doom and gloom. Specifically, we the Muslims, have throughout history been tested with difficulties much harsher. The life of our beloved Prophet (may Allah bestow peace and blessings upon him) is an excellent example of endurance, perseverance, and overcoming all challenges of life. Difficulties should be welcome, and seen as a chance to become stronger internally, and a chance to display the goodness that comes with being a Pakistan and a muslim.
The second part of the title, assuming a tragedy has been struck, on what assumption are we seeing the outrage of Trump’s election? We can’t say he’s another Republican in the office and the ever-so-frightening prospect of Bush years come to mind, because he has upset the establishment altogether including Republican party members, many of whom he’ll have to contend with in Congress to pass laws. So where is this sense of fear coming from?
Please remain civil, and share objectively.
