Outsourcing.. what is it good for!

Absolutely nothing??

IBM to export programmer jobs to Asia

so the company will be profitable.. the stockholders happy and the customers ‘may’ see drop in prices.. (not to mention quality).. but how does this fit into the current economic model of slashing taxes etc which assumes if companies are provided with more money.. they will do more hirings..

well they are just relocating jobs.. so how is this supposed to work for the US economy as a whole?? where is the ‘feedback’ of this move?

BabG, quality control is important in outsourcing, my horrid experiences with AT&Ts call center in India have emphasized that on a personal level to me. Didn't Dell just close some offshore call centers recently?

we are having this discussion in another thread also that when jobs go abroad others get created, its the lag between job loss and job creation that is a pain for ppl, as well as how quick can they adapt to new needs.

during my consulting work, I had made recommendations for call center consolidation, move to cheaper places within US, overseas, as well as bringing call centers back from overseas..which was critical for some insurance companies. i am all-and-0 in those recommendations because the companies followed suit each time.
