I think they mainly wanted the kid to be put on the radar. The whole idea was that if a Muslim kid can make a clock, he make a bomb too. The teachers just wanted the kid to get interrogated like a terrorist by police.

How dumb do you really have be in order to get a job as police officer in America? It is getting quite frequent to hear American cops using disproportionate amount of force on ethnic minority kids. Four police officers interrogating a kid, and taking him out with handcuffs. Really? I swear they make you do a basic IQ test before giving you a job law enforcement agencies.

Good point! The teacher claims it even beeped. Am waiting for TV channels to interview those school officials and the police to know what they were thinking or if they really are that stupid.

This is not a "Texas" thing. I'm getting sick and tired of everyone painting Texas as some backward hick state that is a dangerous place for Muslims (or any minority) to live, because that is simply not true. Yes, a lot of people have their CHL (concealed handgun license) here, but it's not a dangerous place to live. Let's please stop stereotyping Texas because it really is a wonderful state to live in with warm and welcoming people.

I live about 10-15 minutes away from Irving, Tx and I can tell you that 90% of the population here is completely disgusted and enraged by MacArthur High School admins and how Ahmed was treated. The outpouring of support for Muslims here has been heartwarming. Yes, Irving, Tx is unfortunately run by the very racist Mayor Van Duyn, and some of that seems to trickling down into Irving ISD, but soon the day will come when the trash is kicked to the curb.

In order for that happen though, it is imperative that young, professional urban Muslims (especially those born and raised here) step up to the plate and start taking a role in local civics and politics and get involved with changing the fabric of the communities they live in. It's slowly happening in other suburbs, but we need more.

Btw, Ahmed Mohamad has been offered a full scholarship to TAMS (Texas Academy of Math & Sciences) this is a program offered through the University of North Texas that allows talented and gifted STEM students to complete their junior and senior years of highschools consecutively with their freshman and sophomore year of college. The kid will knock 2 years off his undergrad career in one swoop. He is so charismatic and talented, there is no doubt in mind he would excel even without all this notoriety. All this attention is just helping him realize his dreams earlier..good for him.

^ Few bad apples(school mgmt, and police department) can not represent the whole nation. US president, tech leaders google, facebook, twitter, scientist and most importantly common American people are standing with 14 year old kid. I think this attitude make them great.

Read my post again, I'm referring to **outside **of Irving, the surrounding suburbs and municipalities. I have not looked up the term limits/remaining time left for Mayor Van Duyn, but I wouldn't be surprised if her time in office is on the decline because Irving's population of minorities is fast becoming the majority. If you look at all the major strip centers and shopping areas (the ones that aren't abandoned) they are all primarily Indo/Pak or Hispanic. You can't take a step in Irving without hitting a Halal or desi food joint. The Irving masjid? A sprawling campus, adjacent to $600K+ homes (all Muslim owned, they made a private walkway from the subdivision straight into the masjid)...it's all Muslims that are supporting the tax base and funding the schools and pouring their money into this decrepid city. But on the other side of the spectrum, you also have a large refugee (Sudanese and Somali) contingent that has made Irving their base.

That's where the hate is stemming from...a few racist would can't stand to see someone different prosper and are fanning the flames of Isamaphibia by convincing the public at large that "Moozlams" are taking over.

That is why I am saying that it is imperative that young professional urban Muslims (especially in Irving) stand up and get involved with local politics and make their voices heard. Humeray quom may yahin masla hai...we love to now and complain but few put their money where their mouth is...actions speak louder then words.

I live in a very affluent suburb bordering Irving. This past May, our Town Council elections got extremely heated and their was a lot of dirty politics being played. There was a man running for a council position who started stirring up Islamaphibia (our masjid was going before P&Z with an expansion request at the time) and this gentleman tried to tie in the Sharia Court fiasco from Irving. He went as far as to goad and secretly record another candidate on this topic in the parking lot outside the election hall and then "leaked" the recording, hoping to show her as a "Muslim supporter". His dirty tactics backfired, be made a fool out of himself and the Town was enraged that he would stoop to that level.

So you see, Irving's leadership and school district and what the media portrays doesn't always accurately portray what it's like to live in North Texas. Murphy, Southlake, Richardson....all are suburbs that have Muslims serving on City Councils (and won their seats by majority landslides in white majority populations).

I did catch that you are neighboring Irving. My thinking was if within a few miles of Irving 90 pct of people are decent, that should apply to Irving also.

It seems Irving has a long way to go. Just from the random sampling here - the teacher, principal and police - all have issues.

The rest of your points I agree with.

Could the fact this boy has African descent have contributed to this ugly tteatment? Texas is not exactly known for treating African Americans too well - just a tangential point.

The kid is a big drama queen but the texas police are worse douchebags. That was and is my problem and all the bill mahers and dawkins while appearing “hurt” over racism / bigotry charges don’t fault the police. Was this kid worse than Michael Brown who robbed a store and could’ve been charging at Darren Wilson? Ironically, islam / muslims are to blame for anything that concerns them as a lowest denominator, but then you aren’t “racist” or whatever the term would be because islam isn’t a single entity.
