I have Rules defined in Outlook which have been working for seven years without any problem. Usually I get an alert for a message sent with a certain words in the subject line or sent to an alias which I am part of or sent from a particular sender; then it moves that messages into a personal folder.
Recently they stopped working. It says cannot move items. You don’t have permission to perform this operation.
I can read and search the personal folder, but cannot move items into it. With Rules or manually.
What am I suppose to do now?
Re: Outlook 2003 Rules and personal folder
Did you check the permissions on that pst file? Here are a few more things to try (in order):
- Try closing the pst and reopen.
- Try deleting that rule and recreating it
- If all else fails delete the mail profile and start from scratch (if you need details on how to do this let us know)
Re: Outlook 2003 Rules and personal folder
i think you have exceeded the limit of the .pst file.same happened to me. open another one.
Re: Outlook 2003 Rules and personal folder
creating a new mail profile should resolve the problem. I had similar problem last month and my help desk resolved it by deleting the old profile and making a new one. Good luck

What's the limit of the pst file?
Re: Outlook 2003 Rules and personal folder
i am not sure, as i am no techie, but even deleting emails from personal folders didnt help. I was told to create a new one.
Re: Outlook 2003 Rules and personal folder
I've seen pst as big as 3 gb. M$ recommends not going over 2 gb but tht's not a limit.
Once you delete emails you need to compact the pst file, only then will it reduce in size.
