I just caught the author’s interview on TV and it sounds really interesting. He brings in a new outlook on the lives of successful people by talking about the structural and institutional factors that affect their career paths. Most of us don’t even think about these things but it’s very true. His book also dispels the notion of genetic cultural stereotyping about educational aptitudes and he emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic. I’m sure many desis here can relate to some of this stuff.
I've read Blink but not his first book. I've heard Tipping Point was even better than Blink.
I liked Blink... it was an enjoyable read... but just found his attempt to establish an overarching theory a little weak. I like his ideas about thin slicing though... even though they go against the core of the profession I'm in.
