"Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

No matter which field we consider, whether it is sports, showbiz, or in any daily life profession and relationship, you would always hear this. IT is true to a certain extent, but do you think that development in technology and resources have lessen the efforts one has to make in life. How about the rising competition in present age?!

I have heard such views even in terms of practicing one’s religion.

p.s. Do you also at times say this to your younger ones ?

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

Cut throat competition to survive. Technology did contributed towards society but at the cost of inner satisfaction. Everyone now behind getting more and more no matter what (values, relations, etc) he/ she has to sacrifice.

They say a single person's earnings were sufficient to feed a family (kunbaa), but now even all family members works, it is almost insufficient to make both ends meet.

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

Not always...

My generation actually has more of a struggle both in Pakistan and in UK. In the 60's Pakistan was still feeling like a country that had a lot to offer but the subsequent decades and depravities have seriously made Pakistanis lose the plot. In the UK jobs were more available in the past and a lot of national institutions existed that were almost permanent job oppurtunities when they dissapeared so did the work... getting a manual job these days is near impossible and forget cash in hand altogether... too much red tape.

Some elders rightly say that exams are easier, pay is higher, the world feels smaller.... etc but these are relative statements. Back then £3000 could buy you a house, but £10 a week was a good wage. Today £1000 a week is a good wage but likewise a really good house is upwards of £300,000 as well.

In terms of practicing one religion it depends entirely on where you are and the company you keep. Sure if you live in a place which is rather decadent then as the saying goes you will adopt the ways of the ungodly. However likewise it is perfectly possible even in this day and age to find a sanctuary for where you can practice your faith in almost all major cities...

Temptations are more readily available but in many respects so is salvation and while people have always looked down on the deeply religous folks as being a minority the fact is many of the majority envy the feel good factor these groups always seem to have...

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

Actually I hear stuff like our times were better, now you have to work harder.

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

Well MILs and moms would always tell that their times were so difficult, we now have so much convenience and ease. In terms of career, I'd say the increasing competition makes it a lot tougher for our generation. In terms of religion too it's alot more difficult to become practising Muslims these days due to prevelant immorality and an almost dissolved line b/w right and wrong

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

^ i agree with the MIL's and Moms POV. But their meaning is all abt the conveniences we have in taking care of the house and whatnot nahi?

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

I partially agree but then again our older generation didn't have to balance work life as well as household chores and responsibilities. But yes life is more convenient for our generation in taking care of the house etc.

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

how is it true to any extent? Maybe the advancement of technology? well it has rather made a slave of us. And lethargic too. aint we less energetic, less healthy, lagging behind in every aspect than our previous generations? this is because they were not this much enslaved by this technology curse. Can we deal with a single house hold chore if power fails? were they that dependent too?

On the other hand, every next generation is suffering higher from mental diseases and illnesses i.e frustrations and all that. Previous generations were the generations of physicality and we are right opposite. Our brains worked wonder but SUCKS at the same time too. And what blessing is this rising competition idea? only to take away the remnant of our leisure and peace of mind. doh.

And how does even relate with our religious practices? our time being better than the previous one's? doesnt make any sense to me.

Never would I brag this to my younger ones. I would say that to my elder ones because I envy them, but im rather worried and watchful about my younger ones, and wish them Allah's bliss and protection. such a perdition we are heading towards.

re: "Our times were difficult, you are lucky to be in present generation !"

in my opinion, if available luxuries and resources are same then making difference is best way to cope all present challenges. Competition is always good.
