Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

MiniMe Bhaijaan, do you have stats to show how many protested where and which ones turned violent. I agree we only get to see the violent ones and I tried to get info on the protests that didn't involve violence or threats or flag burnings etc.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

the agenda is for the government to take serious action so they can claim that Musharraf's goverment is with the kafirs.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

This idea that people are out in the streets because the government failed to respond on time is an opposition and especially an MMA party line. If it was truly the case why did the first violent protests occur in Peshawar where MMA rules? Wasn’t the MMA provincial government quick enough to respond? And if it was than why violently protest? Same is the case with Iran which as a country was among the forefront to protest on a diplomatic level. Why did the people come out on the streets there as their government cannot be called a stooge nor someone who didn’t take the cartoons seriously?

Anyway, as always the protesters are a mixed bunch of truly hurt, by standers, thrill seekers, manipulative politicians, and opportunistic councilmen to paid instigators.

Quote from the article of Amer Ahmad Khan:

"*For one, most of the public and private property attacked by the rioters cannot even remotely be linked to the cartoons.

The buildings burned in Lahore and Peshawar included cinemas, a theatre, banks, mobile phone outlets, fast food restaurants, the Punjab assembly building, petrol stations, music and video shops.

Most of the vehicles set alight were motorbikes, which are owned mostly by lower middle class people.

Protesters burn American flags in Peshawar

Such targets have nothing to do with the cartoons but have historically been the target of choice for religious activists whenever they have had a reason to take to the streets.

Why motorbikes and cars? Because they are readily available - parked on roadsides and unprotected - burn easily and provide the media with fiery images.

Cinemas, fast food joints and banks are also targeted because they represent entertainment, US economic interests and the interest-based Western financial system.*”

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

this is not the work of sensible people.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Yes, very right my brother, an easy way for the lovers of fundamentalists to lay the blame on someone else. These people are known to deny all sorts of stuff, despite clear evidence. Its a shame.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

This is what I was talking about. My unfortunate friends 5 year old Yahama was also caught in the cross fire in Faisalabad :cb: Most of the protesters who caused damage were little maulana-juniors or talib-ilms from various madrassahs.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

I've posted about this in PA...the reality is this is well beyond the cartoons now..there have been countless cartoons, paintings and Islamophobe articles post 9/11. In Pakistan the protests are being channelised into anti Mush protests, but its gotten out of hand because you have a society which has no effective student leadership and democratic protests are targetted by the state, some 25 years of social engineering to break civil society groups links to the populace have created an imbalanced society. Throw in the major growth in social inequality under Mush ..you have a recipe for disaster.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Many commentators have observed that this violence is borne out of the frustration of the Mullahs (re MMA), because they are fast losing support amongst the Pakistani population. The fact that were peaceful demo's in all the cities of Punjab (except parts of Lahore) and Sindh and that large-scale violence was centered largely on MMA-ruled NWFP, is proof how little influence these MMA mobs have in reality.

The 95% of Pakistani's that had no part in this mob carnage will be more than ever turned off by the these fanatics, and it will make it easier for the government to crack down on such idiots.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

More desctrution and damage today, a telenor center was torched, and if you again see the clips on geo, they were all mau-lana juniors at their best. They also torched 20 daewoo buses, loads of cars, resturant, snatched cameras etc yeah minime had the nerve to say this was primarily peaceful

In peshawar the protesters were armed too :cb:

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

So all those people whose buses, cars and motorcycles got destroyed, how will they deal with it? Even a motorcycle is a big deal for a lot of people in Pakistan.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

this is just so disgusting..( i dunno if its the rite word to use or not..but thats how im feeling :grumpy: ) there is a limit to supidity but our folks have crossed that limit… there is no future for Pakistan…as long as we have gali key ghundey ruling parties..

:frusty:

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Throwing rocks will simply result in the opposite side pointing out how your culture/religion is so barbarian, hence supporting the point made in the cartoons.

The best way to battle the situation, is to do what the "West" does. Use journalism tactics, put bans on danish products, call back your diplomats from Denmark, stop selling them your valuable products at a good rate, etc.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

So what is stopping the government from doing all that, can someone ask the President why the diplomats are not called back, do you think that PTV is not giving the President a special slot to address the nation? Why its taking them so long to react, or are they waiting for more innocents to be killed.

Its sad, but the right and center, both are trying to score political points here, the genuine anger of peaceful millions are ignored, even the insult of the holy Prophet is used for real politks. I think the government wants to score a political point as well, as many said before me, its the Mullah's who are making this violent noise, not the moderately enlightened ones.

May Allah have mercy on us.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

If the government does not take those measures, then the people of any country have their democratic rights to let their leaders know that they wish for their government to issue statements, place bans, cut trade ties, etc. They can write letters to the government, stage peaceful protests and rallies, etc.

Blowing up personal and commercial property that has no connection with Denmark allows the Pakistani government to turn around and say "Well you people are jaahil, so we won't listen to you".

These situations demand a rational response. When muslims figure that out how to be rational, it will be a miracle.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

PCG, I agree with you whole heartedly but, please, dont compare the rule of democratic states and their procedures to Pakistan. Forget the ordinary people in Pakistan, no federal minister or even the PM can say "Mr. President you are wrong" on his face. And in an issue such as this do you think the government wanted to know the peoples opinion? even the President himself used pretty harsh words to describe the cartoons, but that was it, no action followed.

As others have said as well, the government can not do anything, its almost in a position of raku in front of the west. So what can one do, other than hoping that the government comes out of its long raku and for once stands for some things which is right, one can only hope.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

I understand what you are saying, but that does not give license to people to take the law into their own hands, and go so far as to do things that even Islam would deem unlawful and uncivilized. I don't see how burning or destroying another muslim's property helps. In fact, even if the property is Danish, I don't see how it helps the situation. You people might not have a clue, but the violent muslim reaction is making most non-muslims think we're even bigger freaks than they thought we were before. This sort of reaction has not helped muslims at all, in any way.

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Boycotts of Danish products, calling diplomats back, journalistic rebuttals etc are better coordinated at OIC level, rather than Pakistan alone taking a stand on this issue. As we have seen Iran has been brave to go alone and take a bold stance on the cartoons, but no other Muslim state has followed suit, so why should Pakistan stick it's neck out yet again to please cowardly Arab states? Have we not suffered enough over the years by being the self-appointed 'thekadar of Islam' and "more Muslim" than some Muslim states?

Bring the totality of this issue before the OIC, and then let us see whether the Arab states, Indonesia, Turkey and Muslim Africa and others will join Iran and Pakistan?

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

I agree, its a wrong way to say "listen to us", but at the end of the day do you think the higher ups will listen or would they just say "since you said it the in wrong way we can not do anything". Wouldnt this be the official response? main issue jaie bhaR main.

Reza, Pakistan can go both ways IOC and alone, but there is big if

Re: Our Stupid Nation - Pakistanese

Iran has gone alone. Has it made any difference?

Pakistan has gone alone on many ocassions before previously without the OIC. Did it ever make any difference? Nope.

There is an elected MMA majority government in NWFP, not Musharraf supporters. Did Akram Khan Durrani or Siraj ul Haq take the 'moral' and democratic lead and decree that in NWFP there will be a boycott of Danish products? Nope, their thugs went around smashing and burning down local and foreign owned property, looting and killing etc. These people control the government of the province and they behave like this!
