Angelina Jolie goes to India
A mixed cast is being roped in for the production of Michael Winterbottom’s A Mighty Heart, the film adaptation of the book. Angelina will be playing the
role of Mariane Pearl, wife of Daniel Pearl whose story the book reveals. Aly Khan, a small time actor based in England (last seen in Meera’s Nazar and currently on TV series Sharpe’s Challenge and The Bill) will join her in the lead cast along with Irrfan Khan who will be seen in role of an investigating officer. The film was to be shot in Pakistan and the crew was in Karachi a couple of months ago but since Irrfan Khan has been supposedly been denied a visa, the location has been shifted to India - the country with the much ‘softer’ image. Our loss is India’s gain. When will we learn?
well why is it that indians are being refused visa, atleast the actors should be given visa, they give it to our singers and actors. but they are always denied look at the dramas being made by ary and geo most have to be shot outside of pak because of this problem
I dont think there is any set policy that both countries follow while giving visas to actors/musicians. It just depends on the state of relations between the two, and is meant more to send out political/diplomatic signals than anything else. The same applies to expelling each others diplomats.
Thats because this film would highlight the incompetency and complacency of Pakistani authorities as well as their tyrannical behavior in using Pearl episode as a pretense to arrest and banish anybody with a beard into their dungeons...
What makes you guys think that a "soft image" would save Pakistan?
You cannot deny your existance as Muslims.... No matter what ,..even if you hang upside down like monkeys from trees you would still be Pakistanis, a nation carved out of no where for MUSLIMS.

There is a difference between being Muslim which we are proud to be, and being crazy extremists
^ Agreed, but how does the movie help? On one hand you have movies and on the other you have the whole western media blaming Pakistan for anything that happens in Afganistan. We are already so maligned, that such movies won't help. The problem lies somewhere else.
This is a significant loss for Pakistan. This movie would have brought money into Karachi, not to mention alot of publicity. It is not everyday that a big budget hollywood film is shot in Pakistan. Unfortunetly, with our governments attitude, we have and will continue to lose a lot of great oppertunities to other nations.
Jokes aside, that is very true, I have heard MQM ghundas in Karachi stopping people and robbing them in broad day light, the besharam degenerates wont even spare kids carrying 'atisbaazi'/fireworks.
^ 100 % true! I have myself seen them snatch cell phones in broad day light.
Besdies, something tragic i wanted to share, i lost one of my cousin in Karachi who was shot in the mouth my mqm people. They were trying to snatch his motor bike.

trying to snatch a motor bike ?? amazing how this will happen
where do this people get guns from and what the hell police and govt doing there
She might be the sweetheart of Namibia, but it looks like Angelina Jolie doesn’t quite carry the same weight in Pakistan.
*A Pakistani newspaper is reporting that a production crew from Jolie’s upcoming movie “A Mighty Heart” was recently caught filming scenes in Karachi and Islamabad, as well as the Pakistani countryside, without permission from the government. *
*“A Mighty Heart,” is based on Mariane Pearl’s account of the terrifying and unforgettable ordeal of her late husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. *
*A press minister from the government issued a statement to the Pakistan Daily Times saying, “No request by the film unit to shoot in Pakistan had been made to the embassy.” He said all documentary and feature filmmakers must obtain permission and an appropriate visa from the Pakistani government before they begin shooting. Any unauthorized attempt to film without permission and without the knowledge of government authorities is “illegal and regrettable,” he added. The minister said he would be making inquiries, starting today, both here and in Islamabad. *

No good can come out for Pakistan, on any movie made on the murder of Daniel Pearl. I can certainly see why Government of Pakistan isn’t rushing with open arms to embrace the producers of this movie. Money is not a factor here. Thing is, this movie will be made, one way or the other. Just brace yourselves for a rash of negative perceptions about Pakistan and Pakistanis once this movie is released. If you thought that “United 93” was depressing, then this will be the mother of all depressions.
