Because the replies in that thread are mature, non-judgemental, no sarcasm used, very political correct, not attacking etc. Basically how it should be with serious topics.
Also another thing I noted is that some members who post in almost every Life1 thread and always have their opinions clear and without mercy, did not post in niksik’s thread. Hmmm :hypo:
But why is there a difference between approaching members? Because nobody can deny that if that thread had been opened by somebody else, the replies would have been of a whole different context.
Mind you, I dont care if something I post (even it is a valid point) is received with a diss, sarcasm or rolleyes by people who think they are openminded mature people (haha). It only shows the true nature of the other person.
Also it is open invitation to respond in same manner back, so no problem for me

I am not saying we should all become serious and stop joking around. I like the sarcasm, the jokes, witty comments etc. But why treat guppies different?

^you gave Niksik's thread's example but it would be easy for me to understand if you can provide an example where the OP didn't get the serious replies when the topic was pretty serious.
It is not about the serious replies on a topic. It is about the way that the replies are delivered.
I gave that topic as an example because everybody remained well mannered towards OP.
Whereas in a lot of like-wise threads this is not the case. And that is what I am pointing at.
If guppy 1 starts a thread everyone takes him/her seriously, whereas if guppy 2 started the exact same thread, everyone would be mean and bash him/her? Is that what you mean?

I'll use the example OP gave. There is nothing wrong with Niksik's thread, all of the replies were respectable........even if people disagreed, they did it respectfully. However if it had been someone other than Niksik who opened the exact same thread...........the outcome of that thread would be a lot different.

Could it be for the reason that I usually don't bash people in THEIR threads either? I try to communicate my views with a little bit of maturity....most of the times.

True. But many times people are always rallying against newbies or people in general who have differing views..........
I don't mind when people do that to people who bash people in other threads.....I think of that as getting a taste of your own medicine

well there is the baggage of reputaysaan even on an online forum. some folks will never be taken seriously, others will get to be kings, it is not all that different from high school or any free-form gathering of people. what i really would like to know is if the same people who are hot on gs are hot in RL too, or not.
