Topic :
Prophet : Mohammad, the Unseen (or Ilmul Ghayb)
Question:
Assalamu Alaikum. Did our beloved Prophet Swallallahu Alaihi Wasallam possess education of unseen ( ILMUL GHAIB) ?? Please support the answer with AYAS and Hadith. Wassalam.
Answer:
Dear Br. M. As-salaamu alaykum. The issue of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) having the ability to know the Unseen (or Ilmul Ghayb) is a broad and lengthy subject that even Muslim scholars have divergent opinions about it. In brief, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has the ability to know only certain aspects of the unseen that Allah wishes him and exposes him to. However, there are other aspects that Allah Almighty doesn’t show to the Prophet (pbuh) such as the Day of Resurrection, Death, etc. Thank you for asking and God knows best.

Some verses in ENGLISH for you, if you understand arabic, you can read that also:

“Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only a Revelation revealed”

(al-Najm 53:3-4)

“This is of the news of the Unseen which We reveal unto you (O Muhammad)”

[Hood 11:49]

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘I don’t tell you that with me are the treasures of Allaah, nor (that) I know the Unseen; nor I tell you that I am an angel. I but follow what is revealed to me.’”

[al-An’aam 6:50]

Coming back to the topic (I am sorry if Watcher bhai and I side-tracked a bit in the middle)…

I think EVERYONE agrees that all knoweldge of unseen which Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) had was the one revealed to him by Allah Ta’alla. I don’t see anyone disputing that. No one says the Prophet (SAWW) had a blanket knowledge of unseen which may or may notbe revealed to him by Allah.

So what is the point of dispute?

BTW, the first ayat you quoted in your last post is the response to those people who say learning about Ahadith and Sunnah is not required, and EVERYTHING is in Quran. This ayat actually interprets that the Prophet (SAWW) does not say anything of his own. Whatever he says is from Allah Ta’lla.

Dispute? I don’t see any dispute, just a little misunderstanding thats all.

I agree with last segment of your post.

cos it was not a shia sunni debate.

Paglu, read the LAST segment of his post and you will know why I agreed. There is nothing to be excited about, if it was you saying that I would have agreed.
