To please the uneducated masses. Its a simple matter of greater goods for the greater number. They are a majority, the industry will make what they like.
It is no wonder independently directed art movies never (or rarely) make it to the box office in India or Pakistan whereas they win awards elsewhere around the world.
Actually that is the misconception. Film makers think they're pleasing the majority of Pakistanis (masses) when in actuality, most Pakistanis (residing in Pakistan) dont even watch them. Its more like most of the people who do watch Pakistani films are the masses demanding rubbish, rather than the majority of Pakistanis demanding rubbish.
If the majority of Pakistanis wanted to see sleaze, then YDAKH, even though it was no oscar-winner, would not have made a tremendous profit. People went out to watch it because it was a quality production, relatively speaking.
I don't understand.
Why we make films since we have got world class Dramas? In my defence, I think Govt. should record All Time Best Dramas into Arabian, Chinse and English etc languages in order to capture the foreign media.
