Our Columnists Write Sitting In Drawing Room

From my early young age I had adopted a deep respect for columnist. I remember how in Neelam Ghar TV programme when Tariq Aziz himself told the correct answers to quiz questions raised how my uneducated old Aunt used to tell her children “see how Laik he is”. The innocent old did not know Tariq Aziz was reading the correct answer from a paper slip in his hand copied from somewhere. Just like my old Aunt I had admiration for columnists that they possessed high knowledge. However with the passage of time this respect and administration started receding seeing how most of these columnist change their line and philosophies with the change of man on ruling chair. The Osama Laden interview fame columnist Hamid Mir is the last nail in my this receding admiration. A weeks back Hamid Mir in his column stated how due to India’s having defence and co-operation agreements with Israel, the Arab Muslim world today less cares for India and in this line now Arab states give less employment opportunities to Indian nationals.

There cannot be more a lie than that. I have lived for 20 years in Arab world. I have just come back. Arabs care more India than Pakistan. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE these three countries are the second biggest investors in India according to an Arab survey last years. Qatar, UAE and Kuwait had long stopped issuing visas to Pakistan but not to India. Number of Indian employees is continuously and gradually increasing in Arab Middle East countries. Pakistanis are being sent out. Where till a decade back in any big company or department there were 100 Pakistanis and 20 each Indians Bangladeshis, Filipinos, today there are hardly 20 Pakistanis but 70 Indians. Get this confirmed from any Pakistani friend or relative who works in Saudia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar etc.

Columnist like Hamid Mir are filling up stomach of their columns writing over a cup of tea in their drawing rooms.

after living in saudi arabia for almost 4 years, i have no choice but to confirm your views…:k: :k:

There is a counter argument that middle eastern countries prefer non-pakistani employees because they are cheap plus they are more dedicated with less demands. Pakistani workers demand more money and they make more “noise”. Based on personal experience, there is reaosnable substance to this argument. There is absloutly no doubt that a south-indian, sri-lankan and even bangla-deshi worker is more “quite” and cheap (money wise) than a pakistani worker. Therefore middle eastern countries have every right to adopt hiring policies in alignment with their national needs.

However what pisses me off is the continuous propoganda by Mattooss ( Maluvi baradri) of Ummah Concept. THERE IS REALLY NO SUCH CONCEPT IN PLACE. These middle eastern countries are adpoting the policies which suit them best. They do not set their agenda based on Ummah’s concept.

For how long will we keep fooling our people to support these arab countries for a lot of wrong things just becase they are part of so called Ummah? UAE and other states have openly supported india for its security council seat despite pakistan’s pledge not to do so. So dear friends we need to set our priorities staright…
