So, I went to Ottawa in mid May to attend a conference. Didn’t have much time to explore the city but I easily found that Montreal is a much better place to live. The number of homeless people and drug addicts I saw on Rideau Street alone are more than what I saw during my 18 month stays in Montreal.
Anyhow, below are some of the pictures that I took.
I think, it’s better if you visit it towards the end of June till end of August. Mid May was way too windy. I didn’t bring any warm clothes and it was very cold. Montreal, in comparison, was warm and humid but Ottawa was cold in May.
I have Nikon D90 DSLR with Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens. Images are edited using DxO Pro software, they won’t come out that way from any camera
I have only been there twice. Once with my parents about 12 years ago and it was a lot of fun because it was us kids and ammi/abbu. But then at breakfast my parents got in a fight, and I had to pull my dad back inside to the restaurant as he was walking away, so it was a little icy. But both times I loved going to the Chanel counter at the Bay and picking up a ‘blush’ yes both times (thats the very good part)
Then again I went with my husband 8 years ago. It was good until from our hotel window I saw a man pee on the street (gross). And then after checking out next morning walking towards the Parliament. I remembered I forgot my phone on the bed (another bad part) My husband walked back to go get it and I got myself a pedicure (partially a good part - she didn’t do a good job). The rest is a blur
Since you are from Paris, I am assuming you speak French. Did that help you mix in with the people in Montreal, or even if you speak French, you are always the "outsider"?
where did you stay, and where did u eat food? (it takes some effort to find halal places obviously )
I stayed in a hotel on Rideau street. About food, fish and vegetable my friend! BTW, breakfast and Lunch was provided by the conference organizers in Shaw Center.

I understand French but cannot have proper conversation in it so for me Montreal was great as almost everybody spoke English happily. Their accent is very different, some vocabulary also, so for me who can speak few sentences in French, it was always better to stick with English.
Since I was working in Concordia university during my stay, most of my acquaintances were non-native Canadians, and outside Concordia very few native Canadians (neighbors+landlady).
Generally Montreal was great, I liked it very much, even better than Paris. Interacting and mixing with people depends on person, I found local people nice but I'm not the one who actively looks for the people to make acquaintance. I always have cautious approach with desis and others alike.
Some sunny place ...No ... May be it is the camera , the place looks really sunny and green.
Few hours during the day, it was sunny, very sunny. They was a tulip festival also at that time so the city was green and full of flowers. This and next two months will be the best to visit this place.
