Re: other side

AFAIK, the photographer who shot this, commited suicide after a longer period of depression afterwards.

Because instead of helping the poor soul he was busy taking shots to win some stupid award.

Re: other side

^^

His suicide note mentioned the fact that he had run out of money and couldn't pay his debts, and the recent murder of one of his best friends, as well as being haunted by memories of deaths he had seen.

Re: other side

You guys are making this thread more depressing.

Zobia, how the pigeon/monkey picture is related to the one you posted

Re: other side

this pic always gives me goosebumps .. and i feel ashamed of always having too many things .. that i dont even need/ use

Re: other side

^^ But seriously, what can you do, other then praying. For every picture like that , there are millions of kids whose pictures we will never see. The best we can do is to donate some money.

I feel quite helpless cause no matter what you do, there are always kids dying of hunger, somewhere. So sad

Re: other side

chachu, it is not only related biologically but also semiotically.

Re: other side

Re: other side

I don't know the background behind the photographer's suicide or the contents of his final note to the world....but I can only hope that thoughts of winning a prize were not in his head when he took this photo.

I can only hope that after capturing the scene he took the necessary steps to chase away the vulture and help the poor child.

I can only pray that Allah will forgive me my tresspasses against humanity when I indulge in excess.

I can only ask that He acts with his everlasting mercy when it comes time to judge me and my actions.

As depressing as it may be, the photo should lead us all to say a prayer for those unfortunate souls that live and die in this fashion. There are too many of them to count.

The plight of such children/tribes should remind us to be grateful to Him and the kindness that He has showered upon us.

May Allah guide us in our thoughts and actions, ameen.

Re: other side

^ He didn't, after he took the picture, he left the child there for the vulture to prey on hm.

Re: other side

Are you serious ??

or was that a sarcasm

Re: other side

From the Time Magazine website:

In 1993 Carter headed north of the border with Silva to photograph the rebel movement in famine-stricken Sudan. To make the trip, Carter had taken a leave from the Weekly Mail and borrowed money for the air fare. Immediately after their plane ) touched down in the village of Ayod, Carter began snapping photos of famine victims. Seeking relief from the sight of masses of people starving to death, he wandered into the open bush. He heard a soft, high-pitched whimpering and saw a tiny girl trying to make her way to the feeding center. As he crouched to photograph her, a vulture landed in view. Careful not to disturb the bird, he positioned himself for the best possible image. He would later say he waited about 20 minutes, hoping the vulture would spread its wings. It did not, and after he took his photographs, he chased the bird away and watched as the little girl resumed her struggle. Afterward he sat under a tree, lit a cigarette, talked to God and cried. "He was depressed afterward," Silva recalls. "He kept saying he wanted to hug his daughter."

Re: other side

ppl that is y i wasnt posting cuz i knew u gonna b discussing photographer rather then inserting the actual event in to ur life/personality frame.

p.s. worse things happen in this world than this.
lets not discuss moral duty of photographer here, cuz then we are doing shirk.
Mout or Zindagi ALLAH SWT k haath may hai not in that photographerz hand.

ps2. if u really wana discuss Life of that child n moral duty of photographer then i recommend each of u to plz look for "Namrood (ruler at the time of Hazrat Ibrahimz AS)
