Oscars 2000

So the statuettes were recovered in time for the carpet roll-around.

I think Kevin Spacey and American Beauty deserved their awards, while Hillary Swank just pipping Benning could have gone either way.

Appropriately, Green Mile was low-key as although a good film in its own right, didn’t compare to the other giants.

Sorry, but I think American Beauty was a lot of fuss about NOTHING. Just think, Kubrick with his films has never gotten near an Oscar, what does that tell you about them?

I agree. The Academy has sorta slumped and some decisions(and the decision-makers) are just a bunch of hooey.

Yes, Although Kubrick not being recognized by the Academy does not undermine his superior work in any way. Actually, anti-academy folks use that as a valid mud-sling. And they're justified.

Personally, I think smaller film-y bodies such as Cannes, Sundance are way better in encouraging quality films. But having said that, this year's choices at Cannes were extremely controversial.

It's a pity that even though Kubrick was nominated four times for best director and four of his movies were nominated for best pictures, he never won any Oscar beyond the minor categories like Best Screen play, special effects etc.

Personally, I think Eyes Wide Shut should have been nominated in place of Sixth sense.
