Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali’s father Rafiq Qureshi was reportedly said to have sold his nine-year-old daughter. After conducting a string of operations, it was reported that Rafiq Qureshi had put Rubina up for adoption, demanding 2, 00,000 pounds.
However, Qureshi has denied the report. “These reports are not true. I went to the hotel to shoot an ad film. I would never sell my daughter. I met a man who spoke in Arabic. I didn’t understand him,” he said.
He reportedly told the fake sheikh, “I have to consider what’s best for me, my family and Rubina’s future.”
It seems that Rafiq is desperate to cash in on Rubina’s success in the multiple-Oscar winning film by selling her to the highest bidder.
The father of Slumdog Millionaire starlet Rubina Ali, Rafiq Qureshi, was arrested over the claims that he tried to sell his daughter for 200,000 pounds.
A complaint from the 36-year-old man’s ex-wife initiated the arrest.
Reports say that the police spent hours quizzing Qureshi and are now on a prowl to obtain video recordings of the meeting at which the deal was supposedly negotiated. Rubina`s mother Khurshida said, “My elder daughter had informed me…I did not believe he would actually go through with it.”
Khurshida dubbed her ex-hubby and his new wife Mina as “money-crazy” and desperate to cash-in on the child star’s fame.
Police official Prakash Salunke, who is leading the investigation, said: “Khursida was very upset by the media reports and she came to lodge a complaint.
“We are registering her grievance and then we’ll investigate and decide what further steps should be taken in the matter. When we questioned Rubina she said she does not want to go anywhere and wants to live with her father.
“Similarly, Rafiq Qureshi also said he has no intentions of selling her.”
