Now that US sources confirm that the voice indeed belongs to Osama, does it bring us any closer to the mystery of his fate? Is he still alive or did he record the tape a long time ago, and its just now being released?
Its noticable, that in this speech, he doesn’t talk about any contemporary issue. Al-Jazeera never fails to amaze us. I wonder what other speeches they are hiding in their closet to be released at periodic intervals.
What if that all is a trick by US Gov. to justify their terrorist activities around the globe?

Is it? I am not sure. For some reason, I thought Al-Jazeera and US government are not exactly in good terms. Do you remember when US govt actually complained to Qatar government to rein in the Al-Jazeera? Why would Al-Jazeera be helping US?

The U.S. military doesn't need Bin Laden tapes to pop up every so often to justify what their doing as Ali_R believes. Afghanistan is a dangerious place and the U.S. has commited to being there for the long run. Bin Laden being dead or alive doesn't matter anymore (except in keeping the publics attention) we've moved beyond that.
I'd agree with you, except that it was the US President and his Administration who inflated the Osama baloon themselves. Their pompous comments ("Dead or Alive", "Smoke him out", "Get after him" bla bla) raised the expectations of the nation very high. They bombed whole of Afghanistan and couldn't capture him or conclusively prove that he died. That, itself, was a major blow to their egos and claims of professionalism.
Once they finally reconciled to the fate that they don't know what happened to this person, they started down-playing his role. Comments like "he is not important anymore" are mostly borne out of frustration. His speeches popping up every now and then, do serve to keep him in public lime-light, as a thumping taunt to US intelligence who failed to deal with him conclusively. This is something which the US government would want to quelch to keep an impression that they had killed him, months ago.

Sure Al jazeera is propoganda and whatever the US govt says is the truth. Such stupidit is shocking when the US govt has been known to test chemicals on its own people, deal with the enemy (aka iran and iraq) and still it is the sole bastion of truth. Of course it must be because Al Jazeera doesnt follow what the US dictates. That cant be it surely.

Read the 1st post again, Al Jazeera showed the tape, and the US government just confirmed it... So both are on to the same thing...
