How and when will I know if my child needs braces?

okay......so my daughter is seven and has been getting her adult teeth......but they are coming in pretty straight. Ah.
will they stay that way or is there still a chance that they will become crooked?

I ask this because both hubby and I have pretty straight teeth on the upper jaw and some imperfections in the lower (not really visible). we both have never had any sort of orthodontic care.....just came out this way.

what are the chances that she will not need braces either?

Her dentist will make a recommendation once her baby teeth are all gone.

Also, braces don't only correct the protrusion of the teeth but help reduce gap between each tooth. In the long run that is great for the health of the gums so while her teeth may look well set, if there are spaces, the dentist may still ask her to go for braces. They type, length of treatment and costs all depend on the goal.

Braces and orthodontic braces are implanted for fixing underbites, overbites, cross bite and open bites, deep bites, and various other flaws of teeth and jaws, . Their use is not limited to fixing the crooked teeth. Only your Dentist can tell if your child needs them or not and when will she need them.

I don't think parents' teeth matter much when it comes to babies' teeth. Both my parents have pretty straight nice teeth. None of the kids got their kind of teeth. Me and sister infact had to go thru the whole braces process.

okay.....so what you guys are telling me is that buying a boat with the money I've been putting away for braces is not a good idea just yet, huh?

Buy that boat after your dentist tell you that your child does not need braces and her teeth are perfect in all respects. Till then cross your fingers and just pray that you could buy that boat instead of paying to an Orthodontist , a boatload of money.

LOL.

so here's a funny story.....
my dentist is great.....so far anyway.......his hobby is photography and each treatment room has an array/collage of pics on the wall that he has taken.
everytime I go in there for something (and trust me I avoid it as much as I can), I see new pics from around the world.
most times I can tell which monument/bridge/building is from which part of the globe but when I can't quite recognize it, I just say, "That's from my last root canal isn't it?"

and yes, I'm careful enough to only do this when the hygienists are in the room.......... :D
