Ormuri Pakhtuns

Hello everyone,

My Mum is a doctor in the UK. My dad is a civil engineer. My Mum is Kashmiri and my dad is Pakhtun. My father’s family does not speak Pashto; only a few relatives do. They say that they are Afridi. Some of the tribe’s people invited the ancestors of my distant relatives to live with them in Urmar Payan (District Peshawar). The ancestors of my immediate family came from Urmar (District Karak). However, Ormuri Pakhtuns are originally from South Waziristan. They are based in Kaniguram but are also found in surrounding areas such as Shakai valley and Kotkai. Ormuri Pakhtuns are spread out towards the rest of Pakistan. They adopt the language of the area they live in, such as Punjabi or Urdu. As a result the Ormuri language is dying out. Are the Ormuri people Pakhtuns or a separate ethnic group? Does the Ormuri language mirror Pashto very closely? Do these settlements that have the name Urmar belong to the Ormuri Pakhtuns who immigrated to different places? If my family can be traced to Urmar (District Karak) and Urmar Payan (District Peshawar), does that mean that they are Ormuri from Kaniguram or surrounding areas?
