Anybody knows where it started and how did it come to …
hmm i am not sure that the explaination that i got from the belly dance instructor (a friend of mine, i dont’ take belly dance classes :nono3: ) is going to be appropriate to be mentioned in this forum
what i learned was that it was a practice of women during the time of jahileeya to perform for their “husbands” joined in a mutah-type marriage. I’m not sure if it dates back before this… i’d imagine so.
do tell shahzadqu - no shame in informing others
:halo:
I mean its common in Egypt, Turkey and some Arab countries. So how did it emerge?
ok this is what i've been told
it started in lebanon. back in the days, the rulers were so lazy that they didn't wanted to do anything even while having sex. so this "belly dancing" was created for the slave girls to perform on the rulers while they would just lay on their backs and do nthing. It didn't start as a dance.
yeah, i warned you before. Now, this is what i've been told, dont' come and make fun of me or yell at me. wont' mind if someone would like to correct me
not in front of the children!
just kidding - i asked for it, and figured as much.
I read it some where it started out as a form of exercise for the women. I think specifically for women after pregnancy and later it developed in to a dance...

I have no idea. But it's lots of fun :)
Belly dancing was really a practise (movement of belly) done by women to assist in their pregnancy, it obviously wasnt to the extent that belly dancing is today, but those are its origins.
