Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

So I have often wondered , how everyone organizes their kitchen cabinets. How many cabinets do you have and how have your organized your stuff in them?

PS: This might help so many of us to do things in a better way :cb:

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

I knew this one would be from you, you seem very organized.

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Because I Lovvvvve Cooking, I am very conscious about having the cabinets so organized. The nearest cabinet from the cooking range has all immediate spices. Upper portion, everything related to breakfast and all whole garam masalay that are put separately in each small jar, sugar, tea bags, eggs, bread etc.

The lower portion has all immediate masalay (only jars), no shan packets, no other things. Only major salt pepper turmeric chaat masala etc. That cabinet is not at all congested. Because I cook fast, I need the spices without any hassle. I don’t like keep searching for them when I am cooking so I make sure that cabinet is ALWAYS clean and clear from all unnecessary spices.

Other Cabinets:

One is for immediate dishes/ deghchiyan that are used on daily basis, also the rolling pan and a bowl of khushka.

One is for all the spices that are opened but due to the quantity, were not transferred in to the jars. Before making grocery list, I check this cabinet first, so that I don’t buy something which is already there. It also has Rice Bucket and Oil/ Ghee, fish oil is also kept in a separate Jar.

One Cabinet for all Chinese ingredients. All sauces, vinegar. Ketchup, Mayo.. etc etc. (Because Chinese food is not cooked on daily basis. So I kept the ingredients separately so they don’t interfere in my daily cooking, also chinese food has lottttts of ingredients…most of them are bottles so they occupy a lot of space). Also, all shan, national and Ahmed Packets.

One Cabinet for all kind of flours. Plain flour, self-raising flour, chapati flour, Semolina etc.

One Portion for all grains. Mash, Chana, Masoor, Moong. Tomato Tins, Beans Tins, Chick Peas Tins, etc etc.

One Huge Divider for my Crockery. It has 3 separate drawers where I put my cutlery as well.
Other daily use cutlery is put in the rack near the sink.

Oh, and yes, all the Kitchen appliances in one more cabinet.

I think I have covered almost everything..?

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Wow, MA I have learnt a lot from you. Are you in the UK or USA?

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

I am in uk :@:
and thanks :chilly:

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Space in the UK is premium. It’s great that you have found a way!

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Truly speaking, I bought a cabinet separately due to the limited space.. if I had not bought it… I would have got shortage of space. This huge cabinet with two portions served me a lot and is one of my best buys!!

We need pics

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Dude, I have 14 kitchen cabinets and still my stuff is all over the place! no kidding, my friends who have visited me , kick me and tell me I have got to reduce my dabba’s and thela’s ! to make some space!

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

one of the biggest challenges I have faced is to organize pots  do you stack on one another?

and dabba’s .. I hate them, some days I just wanna throw them all out , but then I need them too. I find it the hardest to organize these

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

I have 9 kitchen cupboards organised as follows:

  1. The one that’s in a corner away from the cooker or sink, the bottom shelf has glasses, middle and top shelves, biscuits, nuts dates etc.

  2. The cupboards beneath the sinks has all cleaning products

  3. The one at head height next to sink but close to cooker, bottom shelf has all my daals, and English pickles, middle shelf has a tub of atta for when I make chappatis and poppadoms dried herbs and small jars of spices I don’t use often, like cinnamon. The smaller jars I’ve paced in rectangular baskets, so I can pull it off the shelf and replace quickly. It makes finding my ingredients easier. Top shelf has exta supplies of tea bags, coffee, sugar etc

  4. Cupboards next to the one above, but directly next to cookers, bottom shelf has all my masalas (not shaan), middle shelf has some shaan masalas (again these are in baskets)things like gravy granules etc, top shelf has pastas and noodles.

  5. Cupboard at the bottom, next to cooker has all my pots and pans, stacked insider one another, and chopping boards.

  6. The cupboard at head height on the other side of the cooker has on buttom shelf, all tinned items, middle shelf, jams, Nutella etc, top shelf sauces etc and saffron, that don’t get used frequently.

  7. Cupboard at the bottom next to cooker, bottom shelf has a shoe box containing salt, chili sauces, vinegar and all bottles used for oriental, cooking. Behind the box are my baking ingredients, in Tupperware, so plain flour, sf flour various sugars and extracts. Plus ghee and oil. Top shelf has good bags, scales and rolling pin.

  8. Cupboard above fridge has, medicine like cough syrup and vitamins, cereals a large saucepan that doesn’t fit anywhere else and a panini press which also doesn’t fit anywhere else.

  9. My final cupboard is full lengths and had all my every day crockery, food processor, tea set and a couple of 6 settings dinner sets.

I keep atta and rice in tall rectangular containers that I bough from ikea, these are stacked next to the fridge.

My Tupperware is in a wicker basket with a lid, and sits on top of my freezer which is in the conservatory which adjoins my kitchen.

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

I stack pots on top on inside each other. I don’t buy many pots despite the many dawTs I have. I have 2 big pots, 2 medium, one small and 3 sauce pans in which I cook dal for the house etc. Fry pans are extra.

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Will send you privately

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

How do you guys stack the glasses and cups? on top of each other or just in a straight line ? I tried stacking them one into the other but that damaged their rims :frowning:

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

We have 2 cabinets for glass n cups. I think I should make pics :hmmm:

Re: Organizing the kitchen cabinets..

Expandable shelves help keeping things organized and neat, as well as giving you extra space. Also the plastic bins that are easily available at Bed Bath and Beyond or Target, I find to be very handy.
