Organizing Recipes

So guys, I am sure a lot of people have an issue with how to organize recipes. I have recipes written down on every single mail I get, every note pad I get my hands on, every book I find, on bills on letters.. :bummer:
I’ve tried organizing it on my laptop but its too much work. Making folder named chicken recipes, beef recipes, oriental, chinese etc.. just too much work.

I lost half of the recipes I’ve written down by calling aunties and searching online. I never find them when I need them.
So my question is, how do you girls (or guys) organize recipes you have?

Re: Organizing Recipes

I have a note book ( a real thick one) and I have divided it into partitions like

chicken
veges & daal
mutton
snacks & others

all the recipes that I took print of I eventually lost ! so even when I take a print of some recipe from any website I make sure that I copy it in my note book. Other than my notebook I have a huge folder where I have filed quite a few recipes but I have actually never referred to it. note book is much convenient and practical.

Re: Organizing Recipes

i have recipe boxes. just like a rectangular wooden box with a lid. one is for main entrees, one for desserts and one for miscellaneous. i know seems liek a lot of work but trust me its a time saver when u r on a hunt to look for those lost recipes. even if im jotting down something on a scrap piece of paper i stick the paper in the box. these recipe boxes have a permanent place in the pantry so they are always handy :)

Re: Organizing Recipes

Ok People , here’s an easier way :

Just open a folder in your hotmail account , called recipes …

What I do is , I write a single recipe per mail and send it to my self .. then I move it to the recipe folder and In the subject I put stuff like " Chicken - Chicken karahi " … or “Kebab - Seek kabab” … or “Kebab - chapal kabab” etc ..

Its so much easier coz you can actually search by subject , so all the kababs will come all together when searching etc … I have over 150 recipes , the ones i love and are tried and tested and find them so easily when i need them.

Its specially helpful when guests are coming .. If i cant make up my mind about what to cook, I just do a quick search on Chicken and all the chicken recipes come together , I sift through them and make my mind :lifey:

Re: Organizing Recipes

^thats such a good idea....but I just can't see myself typing out all of the recipes I have right now:(

Re: Organizing Recipes

^^ exactly my issue about making folders on my computer. I do like diamond's idea.

I have an idea to make an album online..which is only visible to me and in the caption or comment section. Add the recipe ...that way I can sift through the recipe and what it looks like so make up my mind....

What do you guys think of this idea... I still haven't done it.... :(

Re: Organizing Recipes

Uff :smack: you lazy buggers … you know when you are noting them down, instead of writing them just type them in a computer … and send them to yourself in an email :sahar02:

I tell you , life is so much easier , plus no matter where you go , you can access your hotmail account and your recipes :cb: ..

Re: Organizing Recipes

Automne, you can actually start adding recipes to the GS recipe portal … and when you search with your own name , all your recipes will come up :sadiyah:

Me and my closest food crazy friends have a gmail account. When ever we come across a new recipe we send it to that account. All four of us have the password and we keep updating it … its lovely :@:

hmmm CB I take my recipe note book to kitchen whenever I am following a recipe from it. How on earth would hotmail account be possible esp when you don’t have a laptop :smack: and personally I won’t be very comfortable in taking my beloved laptop in kitchen just in case something happens to it :snooty:

Re: Organizing Recipes

nice idea chicken biryani :k:
But as she said we cant type it all :bummer:
Recipe typing is boring :bummer:

I have a big binder with lots of dividers. Soups, salads, appetizers, mains, snacks, desserts, etc. If I print a recipe I punch holes and add-it to the right section.

I always write on the top who the recipe was given to me by..

Re: Organizing Recipes

^ I dunno why i have never written anyone’s names on the top and then later i totally forget when someone asks me :frowning:

Such a lazy bugger i am

I used to know an Aunty and Mashallah she was an amazing cook, she taught me her famous smoked korma and stuffed kabab's (cottage cheese). She passed away and I miss her everytime I flip through my binder and read her name. :(
