Organ Donation

What are your views regarding it? Would you donate an organ?

Re: Organ Donation

I’m definitely opposed to the sale of organs. But donating a kidney to a loved one makes perfect sense as long as you are not putting yourself in danger.

When it comes to donating your organs after you have passed away: There are valid arguments for it and valid arguments against it. I’m not really leaning one way on this one.

Re: Organ Donation

Donation not sale.

Re: Organ Donation

The sale of organs is often masked as “donation”. That’s why I was highlighting it here.

Re: Organ Donation

No..

Re: Organ Donation

Organ donation option depends highly on geographical location, because of logistics and options involved. E.g., In Pakistan the services available to handle organs out of the body + corruption / smuggling of organs - isn’t exactly an attractive proposition.
Where as - in Canada: They have setup a system where you have physicians assigned with goal to maximize your health (as oppose to secondary team who looks after donation options). They take care of cultural, religious issues. MAke sure body is respectful and intact (usually no one can tell if you have donated anything from your body) at time of bury.

**As a principal (without worrying about ground realities)****:**I think it should be every Muslim’s mandatory duty to donate their body after death. There is a wide misconception that it is not allowed or discouraged in Islam (more on this below). In Canada, each body can improve at least 72 lives (and save about 7 from certain death). Just saving that many lives from death should save you from hell-fire (if Allah’s wills it).

I run a Photo / Video studio in Canada - I covered a conference last year and there was Sikh leader, Hindu Priest, Tamil representation and Islamic Molvi - who all encouraged and justified giving organ donation. I don’t have the full lectures online anymore (recently deleted them). I will post some links from Islamic perspective:

Here is a brouchure from trillium hospital (local to me): https://www.giftoflife.on.ca/resources/pdf/Trillium_Islamic_Brochure_4___Nov_29_13_FINAL.pdf

Re: Organ Donation

PS: When you start reading it more into it - you have to start distinguish between dead / living (Islamic) and organ vs tissue (medical) segmentation.
