.....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Who over here would want to donate their organs or whatever that may be needed to help another human life after or near their death. I know this is a serious topic for a Friday night :), but I have been pondering over it for a while, I myself would want to if I am in a situation like that..I do have the donor sticker on my Driver License. Most of the people think that maybe the doctors donot try as hard as they should in order to save your life,if they know that you want to be a donor. I think this is a myth…Any doctors care to answer that too???
But anyway in my opinion I think people should think of this rather then just shrug this thought as if and (hopefully ) never comes to a point. Just thinking how much shortage there is for donor organs out there..If only people take few minutes to sort out their thoughts on this.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

yes
Most recently my BIL donated his kidney to his sister (my SIL)

there was no other option

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Thats a noble thing he did...And ofcourse it does require a big heart:)

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I am completely in favor of organ donation, eyes, heart, lungs, anything that can help. I prefer donation after I am dead however....

Re: …Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I’m all for it, but I heard some people say it conflicts with the teachings of Islam because you’re supposed to be buried with all the body parts you were given or something I dunno the exact reasoning but I have heard some people say that. :bummer:

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Mostly thats what I am talking about, Its just that here in the USA, you have to have a donor sticker on your driver License and then a card with 2 witness signature on it. And I guess your family has to be aware of your wishes. I know its a weird thing to say to parents...something like ...Hey ami..I want you to donate my organs when I die...mostly the answer would be "one thapar":D...or Allah Na Karre...but I guess facts are facts, we as humans mostly donot want to think about death...:)

Re: …Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Here is a good site for info and how to get started

Re: …Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I had heard about that too.In my view Islam is a very Logical religion. As mentioned on the website it says
"
Islam
Muslims believe in the principle of saving human lives, and permit organ transplants as a means of achieving that noble end."

And the Gypsy religion is the one against organ donation. All the major religions in this world are not against it…there may be sects…but then logic comes into mind about the reason why not…More or less it is a personal/family decision

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

theoretically, its good if you're buried with all your organs. but if the cause is good, then obviously, I doubt God'll be angry at you for trying to save another life. Well, hopefully that's not the Islamic God.

Re: …Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

The topic’s been discussed to death on GS…
Here are 14 related threads (13 excluding this one):
http://www.paklinks.com/gs/search.php?searchid=798320

Here’s the short answer from a common ground discourse from various sources:

** Three guidelines for organ donation: 1) As long as you’re NOT harming yourself through donation, 2) as long as you’re NOT doing it for monetary gains and 3) as long as it is saving someone’s life.**

Re: …Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I havent seen the threads yet…I am relatively new here…But anyway mostly I am talking about the donation after death…not the live organ/tissue donation..But thanks for the link:)

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

In order to avoid this conflict of interest, the doctor treating the patient is never the one who assess him for transplant. And the doctor of the patient who needs transplantaion cannot be involved in organ donation procedure at all. So the treating doctor is different than the one who'll assess if u are suitable for organ donation.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

i honestly dont know if i am comfortable donating my kidneys except for a loved one. i'd sign up to donate blood or bone marrow anytime provided i am sure the procedure is sterilised and safe. and after im dead im up for donating anyting. eyes etc.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Its truly a noble thing to sign a donor card and to donate organs after your death. There is a misconception at times I think in Islaam that makes Muslims think its not allowed but truly I think it is. How on earth could it be forbidden - to be able to give life or give sight to another once you have passed on?

It also brings to mind some of the religions that forbid not only this but ANY medical procedure which introduces any other human product into the body. I'll never forget one time I was 19 or 20 and having my annual physical. The doc was called to talk to the mother of another patient who needed life-saving surgery and blood during the surgery. The parent, a Jehovah's Witness, informed the doc that the surgery would not take place as it was against her religion. The doc was almost in tears pleading with this mother to save the life of her child. The mother did not give in and I never heard about them but I think the kid probably died, it sounded like thats what would happen.

God gave us brains, yeah? He gave us brains to figure things out and once we do and once we're able to perform life-saving or life-giving miracles IMHO its a sin to deny it.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

Asian people (read as 'desi' if your American) should really consider donating Kidney's. My mum was on the list for about 6 years before she got her Kidney, eventually they had to give one of a teenage (non asian) girl who died in a car crash. The Kidney didn't last long and neither did my mum. It's such a shame that people have to resort to going to Pakistan or India to buy a kidney, iv heard of too many horror stories. Channel four did a programme about the whole buying Kidney's thing yesterday.

You only need one anyway, sharing is good.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I definately would...

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I am so sorry to hear of your loss...Didnt any family members had a match?

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

That is a good piece of information Iconoclast. It really does give peace of mind:).

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

There are all sorts of reasons why peoples Kidneys fail. In our case, its a genetic illness. The doctors tested family members out, but the risk was too high.

Re: .....Organ Donation??What are your THOUGHTS?

I am totally and completely in favor of this donation thingie
:)
