O'Reilly Sued For Sexual Harassment

NEW YORK (CBS) Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly has been slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit by a female employee who claims the conservative talk-show host repeatedly subjected her to sexual harassment through dinner and phone conversations variously described as lewd, lascivious, vile and threatening.

O’Reilly, 55, also filed a lawsuit. It claims the alleged victim of the harassment, Fox associate producer Andrea Mackris, 33, threatened him with the lawsuit in an attempt to extort hush money from the Fox News star.

The Smoking Gun first reported the charges and counter-charges and posted a copy of Makris’ lawsuit on its Web site.

Mackris’ lawsuit asserts that during a phone conversation this August, O’Reilly suggested she buy a vibrator and was clearly excited. Before hanging up, she said, O’Reilly told her: “I appreciate the fun phone call.”

She contended he made a similar call Sept. 21, ending that one by saying: “Next time you’ll come up to my hotel room and we’ll make this happen.”

In his countersuit against Mackris and her attorney, Benedict Morelli, O’Reilly said Morelli demanded $60 million in “hush money” to not file the lawsuit.

“As a public figure, I have received many threats,” he said. “But enough is enough … The threats stop now. I will not give in to extortion.”

O’Reilly’s lawyer, Ronald Green, said he believes there are tapes of conversations between the two and asked a court to compel Mackris to produce them so they could be played publicly.

“I know that he does not fear what is on the tapes,” Green said.

Morelli would not comment on whether any taped phone conversations exist.

Besides the attempt for money, O’Reilly charged that his accuser and her lawyer were trying to embarrass him and Fox News Channel three weeks before the election. Morelli, he said, is a contributor to the Democratic Party; “The O’Reilly Factor” is a particular favorite among Republican viewers.

Morelli said his political contributions had nothing to do with the case.

“When he sued me today, I understood what kind of bully he is,” the lawyer said. Mackris sat next to Morelli at a news conference Wednesday, but did not speak and would not answer questions.

A former White House intern in the first Bush administration, Mackris began working for O’Reilly in April 2000. Her complaint said that the first time she noticed odd behavior by O’Reilly came in 2002, when the Fox host allegedly urged her to use a vibrator after her engagement broke off.

Mackris’ complaint said she told O’Reilly she was not interested in phone sex and felt “trapped” after his first inappropriate phone call.

Mackris never complained to anyone at Fox about untoward behavior by O’Reilly, Green said. When she returned to Fox earlier this year, O’Reilly agreed to match her salary at CNN, the network said.

Fox produced an e-mail Mackris sent to a friend last month, saying things are “wonderful, amazing, fun, creative, invigorating, secure, well-managed, challenging, interesting fun and surrounded by really good, fun people. I’m home and I’ll never leave again.”

Mackris said in her lawsuit that she told O’Reilly she would return to Fox only if he stopped the inappropriate behavior.

She said O’Reilly told her: “If any woman ever breathed a word I’ll make her pay so dearly that she’ll wish she’d never been/ born. I’ll rake her through the mud, bring up things in her life and make her so miserable that she’ll be destroyed.”

On his show Wednesday, O’Reilly called the case “the single most evil thing I have ever experienced, and I’ve seen a lot. But these people picked the wrong guy.”

One of the defendants named in the lawsuit against O’Reilly is Westwood One, which distributes his radio program. Westwood One is managed by Infinity Broadcasting. Infinity Broadcasting and CBS are both owned by Viacom.

Sharam karo! :p

What has Mackris to lose...? Practically nothing. Anyone who is gonna lose in this case is O'Reilly. He is the famous one here.

In any case, sexual harassment at the work place should be taken more seriously. Not sure how these entertainment/show business folks feel towards this thing, though (no pun intended).

Faisal bhai,

There is no better thing than to see sukha hua chehra of loud mouth like Bill O'reilly.

I hope this scandel is true. His career will be over.

His career will be over.

It is in the DNA, dude. :D

That woman has a history of sexual harassment accusations. When she was at CNN, a guy got fired because of her allegations of harassment. She is nothing but a gold digger. That’s a good point for Bill to defend himself.

O'reilly isn't denying that he had phone sex with her, as he knows there might be tapes of it (fyi he is married and has 2 kids). First Rush and now O'reilly, I love these conservatives, it's the old "do as I say, not as I do."

Bill does not call himself a conservative. He calls himself a independent journalist. Actually lots of rightwingers absolutely hated him on swift boat issue. So i won't include him in a category of Rush or Hannity.

I had to agree that he has mellowed down in last 1 year. He was a big Idiot and hate monger after 911 till Iraq war.

Now a days he sounds like some one on right of middle ,not on extreme right wing like Sean Hannity or Rush.

Despite what O'Reilly calls himself (independent, my foot!), an average Joe still thinks of him as a right-wing host, so this embarassment would impact the right-wing regardless, whether they like it or not. :clap clap:

Workplace harrassment is a serious thing. With that said, something just does not ring true here.

Apparently she left Fox for CNN for more money, but CNN never gave her the increase that she thought they had agreed on. THEN she went back to FOX for more money still. Now why would she have gone back to such a hostile work enviornment?

Who knows, the entertainment world has it's own set of rules.

Not really surprising, Oh Reilly mentioned he has visited the Playboy mansion numerous times while being interviewed on Howard Stern.

Rush, O'reilly, Jim Baker....:)

What is it with these guys???

I don't put O'reilly in the exactly the same catagory as Hannity who never lets anyone have a word in edgewise..unless the words support his view...

but...
I don't think he is always completely fair and balanced....

I think he is indepent...... Bush supporter....:)

I mean didn't he show his Bush interview up over days up until the debates started?

That Rush..now he wants privacy.... Creep!

Wonder what the talk will be when Kerry is elected...:)

I admit I often enjoy listening to what these guys have to say...

Hannity and Ann Coulter also...

in an eye-popping astounded sort of way...

sometimes yelling at the t.v. sort of way...

often entertained in a "are they nuts? sort of way..

Let me get this straight now… President Clinton getting head in the white house from an intern is A-OK but O’Reilly talking dirty on the telephone is horrible. :konfused:

myvoice... you would know better. The whole harrasment is determined on how welcome or unwelcome your advances are. In Monica's case, she had a grin on her face. This lady claims she was mortified.

Besides that difference, Clinton doesn't claim to be a self-righteous conservative with 'values'.

Nor does O'Reilly. O'Reilly doesn't claim to be part of the conservative right and the conservative right generally does not claim him to be one of their own. It's really only out of the mainstream liberal lollygaggers that try to put O-Reilly in the Conservative camp.

I've never particularly liked his show so I don't see it very often and don't know what "values" he may or may not promote. My best guess is that he has never spoken for or against phone sex though.

Faisal, my liberal lollygagging friend ( :) ), as to claims the woman was "mortified," let's get real. The alleged harrassment started in 2002 and she claims to have felt "trapped." She felt so trapped that she took a better job with CNN without ever reporting any inappropriate behaviour and then chose to go back to work for O'Reilly. Please notice that she went back to work for O'Reilly at the ** same salary ** she was getting from CNN. Some trap.
